The lady who runs this place is super nice, and the food was beyond delicious. I live in the Highlands and there is a J. Gumbos right by me on Grinstead, but I stopped giving that place my money. The is no comparison on the food between the two. I drive out of my way to visit when I want my Cajun fix. I have tried several of the menu items but my favorite is the crawfish etouffee with extra spice, but the drunken chicken is also exceptional. Since I have to go out of my way to visit, I usually pick up a couple of meals and put the extra one in my fridge for the next day. This food and this particular location is on my rotation of favorite hidden gems. Great portions, but more so, I am tired of paying for mediocre or worse, dismal take out. I am always happy to pay a reasonable price for better product and this place delivers!

Denise is wonderful, she asked me if I had it before, I said no and she gave a sample, she is so attentive and kind. Their gumbo is delicious also. And their bread pudding was amazing. Denise told me I can text to put my order.

I meant to write this review after my first visit. This location has restored my faith in J. Gumbo. I love Cajun food and when the original location opened I was in there all the time. But after the owner began his franchise, it would appear that the oversight was lacking and as a result many of the locations declined in quality and value. When I went into the Middletown location, I was hoping for the best and I was not disappointed. The food at this location was wonderful. It had ample sauce and the flavor was exactly what I was hoping for. I ordered an assortment of dishes. I got the crawfish etouffee and asked that a little extra spice be added. And she did exactly that! I also got the drunken chicken, voodoo chicken and the jambalaya. I'm not even a fan of bread pudding but I decided to try it and even that was great. I have found good Cajun food to be difficult to find in Louisville. I had tried LouLou downtown and spent over $100 for takeout only to be bitterly disappointed. That food was low flavor, watered down, and look disgusting. So when I brought J. Gumbo's home my son said he was afraid. Lol. He thought for some reason that I might have went back to LouLou. I told him that I decided to try this new location (new to me) and after he tried it he said it was delicious. Everything that I got there was wonderful and the owner of the location is just a delightful person. She's so friendly and she told me that the number that's on the website, I could text her there with my order in advance so next time I didn't have to wait. I actually left the restaurant that day, pulled over to sample the food before driving off, and it was so good that I had to text her immediately and let her know that I would be driving out of my way in the future just to come get food from her location. That's how good it is! I went back for a second visit and you know, sometimes you go back for that second visit and you end up finding out that the first one was a fluke, but luckily not for me. The food was just as delicious and I feel like it's a great value. I measure value in how much enjoyment I got out of the product and so for the price, this place is a gold mine. I live within walking distance of a J Gumbo establishment and this Middletown location is about 20 to 25 minutes from my house but I will choose it every time I want Cajun.

The food was amazing. The lady was very. Nice. The place looked clean, but beware there is no dining on-site. I must have missed that part in the description. No worries, we don't live that far away.
