My boyfriend went here one morning to get us coffee before I had woken up. He was struggling to understand the menu as it’s a “how many creams and sugars” vs a “here’s this drink give me that based off a recipe you already have”. Anyway, the cashier was really nice to him and killed it when he told them to just make it how they thought it would be good. He awoke me with a delicious drink and even got himself a cute pin while he was there. Pretty cool spot and would go again if ever in the area.

This place is great. The service is always quick and friendly. We had some order issues one day when it was busy, but they were very quick to fix the issues. There's plenty of space to sit to meet with others or work alone. The breakfast burrito was tasty and I love their coconut brown sugar latte they had.

Sadly stopped going here because the service just isn’t there. Too often I felt like I was annoying the staff for ordering and just stopped going. I understand, obviously, that no one likes to work but, if I’m paying $7 for a coffee to go, I atleast expect to not get dirty looks from workers :/ just idk, I’ve noticed a major diff in customer service in general since gen z has taken over the customer service totem pole. It’s not a big deal just, I don’t like getting dirty looks for helping keep a business afloat.
Multiple times they would offer special limited edition drinks, and multiple times I heard the staff complaining about having to make them. I understand it can be difficult making seasonal drinks but, don’t offer them then lol just not a very inviting place imo. The coffee is good though! I bought a bag of beans from here, and make my coffees at home atm. I love supporting local, just don’t like being treated less than while doing it. Sadly, the local places in Louisville aren’t all good though. There were a lot of very wealthy business owners during pandemic who asked for money from the community to keep them afloat. Don’t even get me started on shahar cafe posting on socials about buying designer $5000 shoes with a gofundme up…

For a place specializing in pour overs, it feels like not much attention is paid to grinding the beans, setting the temperature of the water, washing the filters, or extracting the right amount from the grounds. I suspect you go to look cool and see cool people. And the atmosphere helps with that. But the coffee is just OK.

The enchanted garden is the best drink ever. Pistachio and matcha belong together.

I have been a fan of Safai since 1999. They absolutely have the best coffee I have ever had. Mike and Medora have put their hearts and souls into the coffee they roast, making it an amazing experience every time!

My friends and I just spent 3 days in the Highlands, and we visited Safai Coffee every single day. Every drink we tried was fantastic, and every food item was delicious! We also stocked up on their awesome merch as well (yay LGBTQIA+ friendly businesses!). We are now back home in Illinois and I’m craving a Black Magic latte like crazy! We will definitely be back next time we are in Louisville! 🖤

After a walk in the park, Safai is a place to rest and have a smoothie.
