They make Matzo ball soup, are THE Louisville source for Matzo ball soup. It's good. They have a line of well prepared deli classics like the Reuben , an adequate number of decent side options, and an assembly line style which they have tuned over the decades.
All that said, SSD doesn't grow, and it shows sometimes. Their golden location is home to so many other restaurants that can surprise you, and sometimes just looking at Google Maps you can't make yourself go get that same roast beef with scallion cream cheese you have been ordering since 2005.

But every other time you should go- consider it a donation to keeping Louisville a city you can get a bowl of matzo ball soup in.

Wheelchair accessibility: It is not- their wheelchair entrance is 20-30 yds from their regular entrance. Pre-1990 construction.

I have been a loyal customer for 20 years. Today I ordered one of my favorites Tomato AL Fresco, and it was not a good batch. It was swimming in dressing which overwhelmed the other ingredients. It never has been like that before. Maybe someone didn't follow the recipe, just thought you would like to know. Majic Mushroom Soup was exquisite, as always. I will always continue to be one of your returning patrons, I tell everyone how great you are!

Great Reuben! However spending $20 w tip for a sandwich will not be a routine occurrence for me.

If you're looking for a top-notch deli experience, this local gem is a must-visit! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and her son during a recent lunch stop with my uncle, and their warm, kind hospitality was just the beginning! The atmosphere of this place is both charming and creative, making it a delightful spot to enjoy a meal. The sandwiches are simply outstanding—I tried the John & Marla, which was flavorful and satisfying, and paired it with their delicious potato salad. Highly recommend!

Got the pastrami sandwich and jalapeño corn chowder soup. Both were fantastic. Great service. Will definitely come back again.

Vegetarian options: I always order a pick 2 with half a Soho sandwich and a side of the tomatoes alfresco pasta salad with a chocolate pecan cookie. I would be satisfied eating this meal everyday for the rest of my life. 10/10 I wish I had some right now om nom nom. That's good stuff right there.

I can’t speak about the food, because I wasn’t allowed to order what I wanted. I asked for a submarine sandwich without pastrami. The man making subs told me no substitutions. I said I’m not adding anything, just taking one thing off because I couldn’t eat it. He still told me no. Then I asked him about the made-to-order subs. I asked him to make me a sandwich, just like the submarine with the pastrami. He refused. It shouldn't surprise me, but it still does having to deal with rude, entitled people. I mean, all I wanted to do was order a sandwich at a deli

Great service and it's one of the last of the old school delis around these parts, but the food is mediocre.

Great food, easy ordering, and surprise treat! We came in today 3/16 and was given a mint chocolate brownie in celebration for st. Patty's day. Both my sandwich and brownie were delicious!!!
