We went to Ramsi's and there was an hour and a half wait so we figured we would check The Joy Luck and we were seated immediately. It's a small place and you could miss it if you weren't looking for it, or parked in front of it looking for a backup restaurant. We started with the Pork Buns, which I've never had before and they were unusual but good. My wife had the Mu Shu with beef and fried rice which she enjoyed and it was a decent sized portion, she had lots of leftovers. I had the 5 Flavor with shrimp and steamed rice and it was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. This was a good find and something different from our ordinary spots.

I saw that The Joy Luck had some Taiwanese food on their menu so I went to try it. It was my fault for having my expectations so high. The food was alright, and it didn't taste very authentic. I got the pork soup dumplings and braised pork belly stew over rice (substituted the rice with lo mein). The food was okay. I didn't expect much because this isn't a dim sum place but the soup dumplings were okay. The braised pork belly stew was okay too. The lo mein noodles through it off, which I expected, but they didn't have other noodles you could substitute it with. Everything in general tasted like it wasn't authentic and it felt like a collaboration of flavors more than a mixture. The environment was fine. It was pretty empty when I went and had a nice dim atmosphere. The server was friendly and helpful. All in all, The Joy Luck was okay but I don't think I'll come back here. The food isn't bad, but it just doesn't taste very authentic.

Went on a recommendation for lunch and it was incredible. Everything I ordered was flavorful and delicious. I ordered the app sampler, (absolutely worth trying) and the chicken curry which wasn’t as saucy as I’d like but amazing flavor and great portion. Will be back again!

I've been here a few times already after going here the first time. The food is so good. I've had the lamb with a different sauce/flavor every time I've gone here so far. Each time it's fantastic.

Deleting my old 5 star review for this one.My wife and I went Saturday 1/27 for dinner. The food was delicious... but we ended up with terrible food poisoning. Not only will I never be able to come back, I don't think I'll ever be able to eat General Tsao's again.

Cozy spot tucked in on Bardstown Rd, excellent lunch/dinner option.First off, yes, the Pork Soup Buns were amazing.Perfect size to share as a starter, or with a side as a lunch. I'd never had them, specifically, and was pleasantly surprised. Bun itself was cloudy but chewy, and the pork filling was well balanced and tasty. The Orange Chicken and Fried Rice was some of the best I've had; Cashew Chicken with LoMein was also solid.Service was friendly and prompt; modern pop/r&b soundtrack was a little... unexpected?

I've been to Joy Luck three times, twice to the Highlands location and once to the East End location. The first two times I wasn't impressed, but in all fairness I ordered dishes that could be from any fast casual Chinese restaurant. This time I ordered the Szechuan chicken and my friend and I split the pork buns and sausage roll. The appetizers were fantastic - I could just eat those with some rice and be happy. The chicken was also very tasty; the sauce had a gentle kick to make it flavorful. There was a sign that requested patience from the customers because they were short staffed (I wish people were all decent and understanding human beings so signs like that aren't needed), but I feel like the server was very attentive and friendly. We went around noon on a Thursday and it wasn't crowded at all - perfect for two introverts wanting to catch up.

Great place where the food definitely shines above the rest. The service is nice but usually understaffed and busy but the food is great and makes it all worth your while.

Food was good but there was a bigger issue on this Christmas eve. To the management of this establishment, next year just do online/carryout orders. Never be so greedy as to overwhelm servers that can barely keep up because there's only 3 people working and giving full blown service. The folks that tried their best, kudos to you all. You guys definitely deserve a bonus for being stressed on a holiday.

Sausage roll: the skin is just too tough to chew. Sausage is good flavor and juicy Duck noodle soup is great. Soup is full of the essence of duck. Umami flavor with the creamy soup with a good amount of duck meat. I like the duck taste in the soup. Not too strong that makes you uncomfortable. Noodle is ramen noodle. Soup is better than the noodle in it Corn and duck ragoon: crispy and lots of duck meat. However, I didn't really taste duck in it even with all the meat in it. Overpowered by the other things Soup dumplings pretty good. Personally I prefer more soup in it and thinner skin, but it's still pretty good. Really nice staff and cute little restaurant
