The Goose & Gander is a casual dining restaurant with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The food is generally good, with popular dishes like fried fish, pizza, hot brown, and grilled pork chops with apple butter. The kitchen is skilled, and the service is warm and friendly, with attentive servers who do an excellent job despite sometimes limited capacity, especially for pizzas. Live music outside adds to the good vibe. The menu also includes fried chicken club, hot brown, and a granny Smith apple salad. Iced tea and other beverage options are available. Parking can be limited, but the overall experience is enjoyable and worth returning for.
Regular customers praise the fried chicken entree and meat loaf, saying they are great and worth sharing, especially for those within an hour's drive. The restaurant is located in a charming Kentucky town known for its railroad history, with lovely shops and wonderful restaurants, making it a popular tourist spot. Many visitors find it reasonably priced compared to other nearby restaurants, and sitting outside on a perfect night enhances the experience.
Guests often start their meal with onion rings, which may need dipping in spicy ranch sauce for extra flavor. The strawberry frosty lemon drink is highly recommended. The Rachel sandwich is good but not very flavorful, while the pepperoni pizza with homemade sauce is a favorite. The reuben also receives good reviews. Fried brussel sprouts and fries are popular sides, and the outdoor setting with live music adds to the enjoyable atmosphere.
