Well we will never know because OpenTable failed to tell us that the restaurant was closed for renovations. So we got there and much to our surprise it was closed. Open table was not very helpful I'll give OpenTable a poor rating the restaurant I don't know about
I made a reservation on Open Table 4 hours before our arrival time (on the day of our reservation), and when we arrived, the Green Derby Bistro was CLOSED! Why wasn't Open Table alerted to the fact that the restaurant was closed for the day? As regular customers of this establishment, we were HIGHLY disappointed!
Our waitress was outstanding. Very personable. This is my 3rd visit here and my husband's 2nd. He loves the beef liver. The only thing is they only had 1 left and 3 people wanted it. My pork was nothing special. I enjoyed being out w/friends. I will try something different the next time. We live in Milford but, will come to Green Derby again. We saw a play at the Carnegie.
The Green Derby has been a long time consistently very good restaurant. I'm 68 years old and remember taking dates there when I was in high school. The food is always good and they have many unique traditional Southern dishes not found in many restaurants. (like fried eggplant, baby back ribs on weekends, fantastic fried chicken, and melt in your mouth roast beef over noodles.) It is not as well known in Greater Cincinnati, but it is one of the many neighborhood places where people that know it go frequently as the menu items are always excellent, prices are very reasonable and the service is consistently superb. If you haven't been there or haven't been for a while, try it. Nothing fancy but a true neighborhood gem.
We were celebrating my mother's 91st birthday, and choose the Green Derby because my mother and late father used to go their for their weekly “dates” and it became a “ special occasion” destination for our family. We had a huge family dinner there the day after my fatjer's funeral, in fact:) An amazing night and my Mama felt very special , as the staff were all so sweet to her. As always, the food was delicious.
While the food was EXCELLENT, we did not care too much for the neighborhood it is in. We understand you can't do much about that; however, we will not likely return to the restaurant strictly because of that.
Place had the feel of an old country restaurant. The food is very reasonably priced and tasted amazing. I had the Kentucky Hot Brown, and will definately get it again. There was also plenty of beers on tap to choose from
This is classic all-American fare, delicious and well-prepared, in an interesting older venue that looks like it was once a hotel. We had beef liver and a steak, both superbly cooked. Service was attentive and friendly.
Went here for lunch, really cute place. Yes it is old, but it's been open for like 70 years, so it's more historical old than just a place that management forgot. Fish and chips were excellent, huge portions! Staff was very friendly, I look forward to sitting in their bar area next time. It looks like they have an extensive draft list.
The owner and his wife are wonderful people and the food and atmosphere is awesome. Everyone working here loves thier job and it shows :)
Restaurantji Recommends
Years ago was a good place to get a good fish sandwich. Four of us went there during Lent , we all got fish that none of us enjoyed. Fish was overcooked , some portions were too small and it felt like we were being rushed after two of us gave a negative review of a dessert they had recommend. Add to that a report on a local tv station about a health dept. negative report because of insects and I would not recommend this place.
Good food. Not particularly flavorful, but fresh and nicely cooked. Liked the cod and chips, texture on both was excellent. Wine and cocktail shrimp were a little pricey, but good. Service was not perfect, but friendly and helpful. We'll be back.
A great home style option. The fried grouper is delicious. Last week I tried the pot roast and it was really good as well. Sides are nothing out of this world but the main entrees have been great. Restaurants like this should be celebrated.
Sat night @ 5pm , dinner before movie in Newport with friends, 1st time, all 4 of us liked it, easy to find, easy parking, good beer and bourbon selection and good menu too. I had a good Dunkel from the tap (okay, 2 of them) , and saw my current fav. Bulliet 10year bourbon on the list too and the lady had a Riesling she liked. Waiter was friendly,,, service times were spot on, 1st drinks, then order, check back on -drinks-food-dessert,, all exactly right. Happy to get a dinner reservation too, will definitely be back.
Food came wrong and when we got it after a wait it was cold. I ordered the pork chops and they were raw. Very pink inside. I also heard other waiters apologizing to there tables also about the food and service. We ordered wine and it never came. Poorly organized!! We were there for New Years Eve. Not good at all!!
