I had a deeply disappointing experience at Atwood’s Bakery. Despite the restaurant not being busy at all, I waited 20 minutes before I had to ask for a server, After finally receiving a menu, I was ignored again for 15 more minutes until I just gave up and went to the counter and asked for my order to be taken.
The servers seemed disorganized, with no clear understanding of who was responsible for which tables. Worse, they appeared to intentionally ignore both seated guests and those walking in. The lack of coordination was glaringly obvious by other guest who seemed confused as well.
The several folks behind the counter who appear to be management seem completely indifferent to the poor service being provided. Very disappointing.
Despite them opening at 7am for breakfast the restaurant was extremely cold in the dining room at 1:00pm. I heard several other elderly guest complaining.
The pimento cheese sandwich was served as a cold and sloppy, flavorless mess. The French onion soup was served without a spoon- lucky they had some plastic ones I found myself by the coffee station.
Seems like the family members that have taken the helm, have a much more ‘laissez-faire’ hand-off attitude when managing their staff, sevice, and product than when they earned their reputation in their glory days.
I got some sugar cookies, a tie dye cookie, an iced christmas stocking cookie, and a Chantilly berry bowl. I spent about $32. Everything i tasted had a chemical taste to it and kind of like they forgot to add flavoring to their cookies. It all looked great, but tasted pretty bad. The inside of the bakery looked pretty amazing, so I had a lot of hope for their baked goods.

STOP HERE!! Wow on all levels! Like stopping in at Nana's house. The grits are the best I've ever had and I'm from the south. Best coffee in town. What a special place!!
Kid-friendliness: This place is like coming home to eat with family.

The deserts we bought were great. We showed up about 30 minutes before closing and we're treated courteously. The woman who was working helped us with absolutely everything and was extremely friendly. Great bakery that we plan on going back to regularly.

First time I was here I got to try this really sweet cake. I don't usually love super sweet foods so I was surprised to find it a pleasant bite. All the food here looks really good and I can't wait to be able to try more from the menu.
I absolutely love the atmosphere of the place. The way everything is on display is really pretty. Nice place to just sit and relax.
Pretty much everyone in the place is absolutely phenomenal. The workers are very nice and obviously very much enjoy being here which is nice to see.
About the only employee that I would have any complaints about, was a younger staff who was putting up chairs. I was with a few people who worked at the bakery, and she seemed to be giving dirty looks. Gave off a very "higher then thou" energy.
But that is only one of the several employees there. The rest all have absolutely great energy, so not really a turn off and more of an observation.
I used to live in Seattle so the bakery feels a lot like the smaller shops in Pike's Place. It's a very welcoming small business and I would highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Shortbread cookies were dry and hard and flavorless instead of a soft crumbly butter cookie. Couldn't taste any butter...just awful...and so were the sugar cookies. The chocolate chip cookies had so many chocolate chips that you couldn't hardly taste the delicious cookie part. I picked off as many as possible which made it edible. But for goodness sake get a new shortbread cookie recipe. Yours is horrible. I wouldn't even call that a shortbread cookie.
Reply: The cookies were delivered to us so I guess I thought those awful sand tarts were supposed to be shortbread...sorry...but they are still awful. Love the thumbprint cookies but too expensive for a 2 bite cookie.

The food is great and all the staff is very nice. You better have your drink and food order ready because you will wait a minimum of 10+ before they take your order. Lots of other staff stands around while you just wait. Get here before 8 as it will fill up quick.

Discrimination. Poor Service. I have been a loyal customer for years. This morning an older waitress totally ignored me. I watched her meet and greet other customers as they came in after me. It was obvious that there was a difference in race. I was ignored by by the waitress over 20+ minutes. I requested to speak to the manager. All he did was make excuses. Told me he would replay the camera. I felt that he implied I was not telling the truth. He went on to say he is in the back. I left without eating and no satisfaction. The manager made no effort to correct this insulting situation. This was an awful way to start the day. I strongly encourage Atwood's to improve their customer service. Discrimination is illegal. I am certain minorities are a significant part of their customer base.Carmella Hinkston
