OBSCURE / HIDDEN GEM! The atmosphere is no frills offering good food. Ms. Evelyn (I hope I got her name right) brings her skills and talent to work with her EVERYDAY this place is open for business. The food never disappoints. From the delicious fried chicken, fried catfish, red beans & rice, white beans (all beans served with whole sausage links) potato salad, macaroni cheese, peas, & much more! They have dessert and each meal comes with a corn muffin and tea. ONLY open weekdays from 11am to 2 pm. Very popular with the locals. That being said you will run into a crowd, DAILY. Well worth it! There are small areas indoors for eating but most get their food to go. They post Daily lunch menus on FACEBOOK. Check it out for accuracy. Will post pics of the full plates of food when another order is placed.

Love the stockyard cafe for a lunch spot. Bring cash bc they don’t take card. There is an atm inside the gas station across the street.

Talked to a local Stoney- this place comes highly recommended! Good soul food. Nothing out of a can tasting! Meatloaf and yams suggested.Previous post/picture says cash only, but I have confirmed they do take card!

Was told about this place by a guy at a place I was delivering to. You know it's good when people are lined up at the door before it opens. It definitely isn't anything to look at, but the food surely made up for that. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Had the hamburger steak with rice and gravy, corn and green beans. Everything was excellent. Definitely will be coming back next time I'm in town.

Was in the area. Stopped in, got meatloaf, rice and gravy, green beans, white beans, cornbread muffin, and small sweet tea. 14 dollars. Ate about 1/2 of it and brought the rest home for later. Portions are huge. This is cafeteria style. They also had fried chicken, baked chicken, smothered pork chops, white beans and sausage as well as 6 vegetable choices. Servers and cashier nice and friendly. Food was great home style cooking.

This place gunna kill me, y'all. Absolutely annihilated my vegetarian, low cholesterol diet. I should have known what I was getting into when every meal comes with a free sweet tea. Its a wonderful Baton Rouge food experience: all the delicious southern soul and none of the pomp and pretentiousness of the local places downtown or in mid city. I totally forgot I was a teacher on spring break and instead ate like I was a construction worker coming off a job. Bury me with the rice and gravy. All Hail the Stockyard Cafe.
