OMG. 4 month road trip and this was in my top 3 restaurants in 6 states. Roasted Artichoke app was scrumptuous as was ahi tuna salad. So glad I stopped here. Passion at chef level!

The so called wood fired grill is suppose to be red oak wood for the flavor. This restaurant in B.R. uses anything they can get. They use Talla tree, magnolia, ash just whatever there wood guy finds laying on the side of the road.I know this first hand because I worked for their wood delivery man.He pays no taxes does not even have business insurance or vehicle insurance.Do you want to pay for a steak cooked over a magnolia tree?I hope not because it could actually poison you Goodday to all.

Taste was good, but...portion was so tiny I thought it was an appetizer! Ahi Tuna Salad = about 7 or so tiny little, bite sized pieces of tuna lined up in a row like gumdrops with a handful of cabbage mixed with some crunchy noodles and dressing, and costing $21.00. No bread either. And that's before tax, tip and ice tea. This is BR's nod to nouvelle cuisine, I guess. As a native of New Orleans, city of fine dining generosity, I'm astonished that people in BR continue to patronize this place if this is the standard for portion size. Glad I wasn't footing the bill or I'd have sent it back. Appetizer size is not a main dish salad size. Maybe the chefs here should watch cooking competition shows on TV as the judges always knock you when you serve a teeny tiny dish for a main! Not pour moi. PS Service should never be intrusive at a fine dining establishment. The waiter interrupted us to tell us his name--always a strange gesture in US restaurants not seen in European establishments, for example--and then after we had finished eating, came to clear away the dishes of the three of us at a snail's pace although we were clearly in the midst of a conversation.UPDATE: It's March, 2024, and if it's possible, J. Alexander's has now hit an all time low. I dined there with two other people this week, and the food was, in a word, garbage. I ordered a salad with beefsteak, and it consisted of small squares of shoe leather (beef so tough I could barely cut it or chew it) and cheap iceberg lettuce, which looked like a car had rolled over it, heavily doused in what tasted like bottled Caesar dressing. This was just under $20.00! My dining companions also had extremely poor quality food. And we all vowed never to eat there again.

My wife just got home from eating there everything was amazing, except the trout. After some research all the website says it is trout. What kind of trout? Well she ate 2 bites and brought the rest home. Luckily the Mac and cheese was amazing so she was able to fill up on

Very disappointing, especially with it being our first time dining here. Service was very mediocre. Our server was very nice but the service wasn’t the greatest. Ordered the redfish special which was ok. Nothing spectacular. Was very under seasoned. Also ordered the Steak Maui. My husband ordered it medium however it came out rare. The wait time to even notify our server about the issue was ridiculous. He had to be waved down. Sent it back just to receive the exact same undercooked steak. (literally the same steak my husband had cut into pieces to check the cook on different parts of the steak) The manager tried to insinuate we did not know what medium was by explaining to us medium has “a thin pink line” and tried to imply that we actually wanted it medium well. No, we want medium, would even take medium rare but this steak wasn’t even that. Was offered a free desert however the experience was ruined at this point. Very underwhelming experience and very unimpressed with the restaurant.

The service is top notch. The shrimp were so tender and delish! The sirloin burger was fantastic and portions are plenty. We enjoy this location regularly.

This review is more directed at the service than the food. I decided to sit at the bar as I dined solo. While sitting at the bar, the closest bartender did not acknowledge or greet me as a customer. He was mixing drinks. There was another bartender who stood by but I'm wondering if they decided to split sections being it was a huge bar area.Fast forward, I waited at least 5 minutes before that same bartender approached me to take my order. Another solo person came to sit at the bar and she was greeted immediately with water. I did leave a note for the bartender, that going forward, to acknowledge a customer and let them know you'll be right with them if you're in the middle of something. Please note I don't believe the bartender intentionally did it but it is still unacceptable.Overall, the food was decent. Chicken pasta soup was a 4/5. The salmon with orzo wild rice mix was a 2/5.Would I come here again? Maybe. I would be less incline to sit at the bar if attention to detail is lacking.

Great place for late lunch on Saturday. My absolute favorite fries in town and a decent steak at a decent price. Service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere is lively but not too noisy for a conversation. Kid friendly and great specials.

Hated they closed the Houston location so I was pleased to enjoy BR spot. Tried the TripleTail fish and that was an exceptional treat. Highly recommend.
