Southern Classic Chicken is a popular fried chicken restaurant known for its tasty and well-spiced chicken. Customers appreciate that the chicken is hot, fresh, and very juicy, especially the leg and breast pieces, which remind some of the good local fried chicken from childhood. Many reviewers feel the chicken is better than what larger chains like Popeyes have become, and some mention that the chicken is worth trying, especially when taking advantage of deals or specials.
However, the sides receive mixed reviews. While some find the red beans and fries to be okay, others find them bland or not particularly memorable. The mac and cheese are considered nothing special and are viewed as expensive, similar to the price of the chicken itself. Overall, the restaurant’s prices are higher compared to nearby competitors like Rouses, where similar sides can be purchased more cheaply. Customers suggest that to save money, they often skip the sides and buy potato salad, cole slaw, and rolls from other stores.
The restaurant operates as a drive-thru only, which means no seating until at least October. Service quality varies; some customers report friendly, engaging staff who provide good experiences, while others mention occasional issues like incorrect orders or missing items. Delivery service is quick and reliable with food arriving hot.
Overall, Southern Classic Chicken offers very tasty fried chicken that some consider a good alternative to larger chains. The restaurant is praised for its affordability when using deals and its friendly service, making it a worthwhile visit for chicken lovers.
