Mr. Volland,
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the service my family and I experienced at Stroubes Seafood and Steaks, where we had reserved a large table to celebrate my husband’s birthday. As lifelong Baton Rouge residents and local business owners, we have always valued the unique hospitality and high standards that define our city’s restaurant community. Unfortunately, our recent visit to Stroubes fell far short of those expectations.
From the moment we were seated, the service was disorganized and inattentive. Two servers were assigned to our party, yet one disappeared. The waitress who was very sweet was struggling because she had to wait other tables in addition to our large party. During our nearly three hour wait, several other customers arrived after us, had their meals, and left while our party remained unserved. We were not late for our reservation in fact, my sister and niece, who both live downtown, arrived well before our scheduled time.
Our gathering was meaningful. Four generations of our family came together that evening, including my 83-year-old mother, myself and siblings, our children and their spouses, as well as our grandchildren. What should have been a joyful family celebration became an evening of frustration and disappointment. When our food finally arrived, it was cold and clearly reheated, and our drinks were served at room temperature. The bartender was unable to prepare basic cocktails. A Bloody Mary without tomato juice and a rum punch made with cranberry juice were among the most concerning examples.
When we raised these issues, your manager, Ben, approached our table with a dismissive and defensive attitude, which only made matters worse. His lack of professionalism and courtesy reflected a disregard for our experience, and it’s hard not to feel that our treatment may have been influenced by our race. We were deeply disrespected and made to feel unwelcome in a restaurant we had trusted to host our family celebration.
As a lifelong resident of our great city, I recall visiting the downtown merchants as a little girl. Those memories are filled with pride and affection for Baton Rouge. Sadly, that endearing memory is now marred by the fact that someone who upholds the mistreatment of customers and serves substandard food owns multiple establishments in our beloved downtown Baton Rouge. I have dined at Capital City Grill and have entertained clients at City Pork, but after this experience, I will do so no more.
We have dined at many of Baton Rouge’s premier restaurants. Ruth’s Chris, The Little Village, Fleming’s, Stab’s, Ruffino’s and always left proud of the excellence our city offers. We had hoped Stroubes would deliver a similar experience, but instead, it became an embarrassing and disheartening evening.
There was no altercation, no “incident” only our justified frustration at being ignored, mistreated, and served substandard food on what should have been a joyous occasion. The true offense was not our reaction, but the service itself.
As a fellow business owner, I know that every customer’s experience reflects directly on one’s leadership. I urge you to address these serious issues within your staff and management team to ensure no other guests endure what we did.
Baton Rouge and visitors of our great city, be warned: what we experienced at Stroubes was not reflective of the warmth, respect, and quality service our community is known for. The experience was embarrassing, disheartening, and unacceptable for any establishment representing downtown Baton Rouge.

We had a dinner party of 14. We had reservations for 5:30 PM and arrived at 5:45 and they were still setting up. Finally we were seated and took 35 mins to get our warm beers and other beverages. Another 45 to an hour past and we received some cool steaks and potatoes and fries. We called management to express our feelings and the bearded jerk showed us no concern about our complaints and told us we could leave. As we were leaving we saw him gather with his staff outside and point at us as if we were the problem. This will be my first and last visit. I wish we went to Ruth Chris!

This experience was HORRID. We had reservations for 5:30pm although my part of the party was late everyone else was there so we got there around 6. We ordered our drinks and it took about 5-15 minutes just to get our drinks. The beers came out hot, and when we told the waitress she stated she would check on that. Fast forward about an hour we waited on hour food. About a hour and 15 minutes later we got our food. The food came out cold, food looked like it had been sitting for a while. The potatoes were dry, my fries were cold and salty, it was ridiculous. We waited a hour and a half for some food they found God knows where. My aunt called the waitress and asked for the manager. The bowling ball comes walking out with another male waitress looking like he already had a bad attitude. Now see my aunt is very professional, not once have i seen her get out of character the way she had to because of the bad attitude of the bowling ball manager. The manager tries to make excuses for how bad the service was. He kept interrupting my aunt while she was in her professional phase. I am highly ashamed and embarrassed for the waitresses themselves. My dads steak was terrible. The butter on the rolls wasn’t even melting. The manager then said we could leave. When we exited the building we saw three men standing outside with the manager “on break”. I was flabbergasted. We didn’t even pay because there was nothing to pay for. The restaurant was practically empty. This is beyond me. People that came after us had already eaten and left. When we arrived, they were still setting up our table and we were already late. This felt like racism at it’s finest. The manager came out with a attitude and even tried to start with my grandmother. She is an elderly arguing with a man. Ben, you should be ashamed of how you manage this restaurant since you call yourself the manager. Overly, and utterly disappointed in how such a nice looking place could be so horrid. We were there from 6-8 waiting on food we never got. I would NEVER recommend eating at this man cave.

Food and service was lack luster at best . Super slow service when we arrived the restaurant was almost empty so we expected service to be a bit faster than it was. Food has really gone down in quality our carpaccio was drowning in oil , the lamb was bland and over cooked, the grilled bread served with the carpaccio and baked brie was burnt and hard way over toasted. This used to be one of our favorite places in Baton Rouge.

I called strobes about charging my cc “as a gift card” off the bill for my son’s dinner party. Manager told me it was no problem and charged my card $600 a few hours before my son’s reservation. Well they never took the $600 off the dinner bill and the manager blamed the server. They turned a special dinner into a mess and wasted a bunch of time. Very disappointing!

The staff were very professional and the waitress made some great recommendations. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and the cocktails. One couple was their first time and shared with us that they would be back. Absolutely loved the lollipop lamb chops appetizers. I always bring our friends to the restaurant when we attend an event at the Manship Theater. Excellent restaurant. Thank you

Went here for the first time recently, while the food was very good, the service missed the mark on what you'd expect from a high end steakhouse and not on par with the others in town. Went for our anniversary, and selected that as the occasion when booking. Fleming's, Ruth's, Sullivan's all go out of their way to acknowledge your occasion when you first arrive and when your server gets to the table. Not here. And although it's not a huge ordeal, it's the small details that matter when you end up spending $200+ on two people. Hostess did take a picture and my wife said it was our anniversary just out of conversation, and she acknowledged that she knew that, but still not a happy anniversary. At this time the server was also bringing out dessert out which she quickly took it back and had them write “happy anniversary” on it, I guess after overhearing that. Other things would be keeping the table clean and clearing dishes out the way could've been better. Steaks and sides were very good, just not sure we'd return because it's lacking the great service and the experience that we're used to at the other high end steakhouses.

Incredible food and service. Five star experience all around. The stars of the dinner were the mash potatoes, seasonal gnocchi, and lamp chops. Filet with crab and hollandaise was amazing too, their calamari is cooked in tallow oil so it’s tastier and healthier, the Steak Diane was delicious (especially if you love mushrooms). The seasonal Spritz was a wonderfully refreshing cocktail. Their seasonal items are well thought out, so I’d recommend trying something off that menu.

Worset lamb lollipops I have ever run accross. Then I decided to try thr tenderloin capacious and found out there was something even worse on the menu. Drinched in olive oil with some pickled shallots. Not appetizing at all.

Bar tender was decent but seemed to be distracted. I will not come back for several months.

Our family of three went to Stroubes Seafood and Steak to celebrate a birthday. We made our reservation online. We needed to change the time and when we had difficulty with the OpenTable app, we called and they easily accommodated our change. We were seated by a window and enjoyed our table. The best part starts here though. Our server, Kayleigh, was EXCEPTIONAL. She was pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable, resourceful and kept her eye on us without being intrusive. The AGM was well informed of food options and his staff's abilities. The food was DELICIOUS. Due to some food allergies, we needed abbreviations to the menu items we chose and the chef handled them all with superb skill. Kayleigh was on top of things here too, even quickly researching an ingredient in the dessert sauce. She was remarkable. We had the Lamb Lollipops, ... over cream spinach; Duck Louisiana, duck breast, smoked gouda stone ground grits, pepper jack cream spinach, (substitute for the) port cherry reduction; 9 oz Filet Mignon; and Lobster. YUM!! Our Stroubes Seafood and Steak experience was delightful and we def plan to go again!
