UMAMI Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

Ordered DoorDash last night 7/16/2026, went to pick it up, instead of eating take out I changed my mind and decided I wanted to dine in. I asked the hostess if I could and she told me I could seat anywhere. After that a server or just another worker saw me sitting down with my girlfriend and decided he was going to clean and mop an already clean table. He kept saying “I gotta mop” until I was forced to leave the table to not create any disturbances at the restaurant. This is unacceptable. I’m not eating for free, why wouldn’t he let me sit at a table? I’m a long time customer but if this is how you treat your customers I will take my business elsewhere.

We had a disappointing experience. One of our kids' meals didn't arrive until after the check was already brought to the table, meaning only four of the five people in our party were actually served when it was time to eat.
The issue wasn't just the slow service or the forgotten meal—it was the manager's response when the problem was brought to his attention. There was little concern, no sense of urgency, and no effort to make the situation right. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity was added to the bill for a party of two adults and three children despite the service issues.
Mistakes happen, but good management can turn a bad situation around. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. Poor service, poor management, and a complete lack of concern for the customer experience.

Had order the steak hibachi and rice. My steak was overcooked well done instead of medium. The rice portion looked like they were feeding a little kid (yes that small ) . Ive eaten there many of times and its the first time I was truly disappointed

Food was cold and slow coming out. One person at a time served. Told that the food had to be prepared one at a time. Had we been aware of this we would have gone to Kyoto were the food for the group is prepared in front of you and everyone gets served at the same time. Not much fun eating alone in front of the rest of your party.

I’m sorry to say we had a very bad experience here. Ordered take-out and there was an issue with the credit card—didn’t seem to go through and in the end we were charged twice. After many many (many) exchanges and excuses I had to file a dispute with the credit card company. The owner never got involved directly and I feel it was just so poorly handled. We will not be back. And I suggest watching your charges if paying other than by cash. (I’ll add that while the fish was good, the prices are more than what we pay in Houston for the same quality.)

The dancing roll was delicious, but the snow crab salad was super disappointing. There was maybe 1/4 of snowcrab on a bunch of stale lettuce. Definitely not worth $15+

We’ve found our go-to date night spot. Every time we come here, it just hits. The sushi is fresh, full of flavor, and you can tell they care about what they’re putting out. Service is always on point without being over the top, and the atmosphere makes it easy to slow down and actually enjoy the night.

It’s one of those places you leave already talking about when you’re coming back. If you’re in Lake Charles and want a solid sushi spot, this is it.

Worst service. I placed a phone pickup order and got the wrong order. I had to drive all the way back just to show them the mistake and get it fixed. It was very inconvenient having to drive back and forth because of their error. Never going back again.

The food was delicious! The Hotate Topan Yaki was amazing! A unique must try!

The service was on point. Our waitress May was attentive and made our visit a great experience. We will visit again!
