Big Fisherman is the ONLY place I’d consider buying crawfish. The seasoning is just right - flavor, flavor, FLAVOR! I live in Houston now, and I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to the perfection of their boil. I surely do miss it.

Was looking for a snack and grabbed 2 crawfish pies to go that were still warm! The lady was SO kind to advise me I basically missed all the food as it was super bowl weekend but to come back earlier in mornings for crab and shrimp!! There is always readily available frozen local sea food in the freezer there for quick grab! So yummy I will be back !

Pandemic update Momma wanted to bake a whole fish for our very small Christmas dinner. Most people do not want a whole fish so I was supposed to order one. Guess who forgot? So I showed up at Big Fisherman first thing in the morning on Christmas Eve. Alleluia! They had beautiful whole speckled trout and even cleaned them for me to Mom's specifications. They were hopping with folks picking up previously ordered crates of oysters and shrimp and what not. I really appreciated them getting me out of a bind of my own creation. Staff was all masked. Social distancing was good. Dinner was saved!

Picked up three lbs of crawfish for a picnic at Audobon Park and was lucky enough that a steaming pile was being brought up just as I moved to order! At $5.99, the crawfish was a bargain. Yes, this is a market and there's no place to sit down and eat. But there are plenty of places nearby that will let you sit down and eat with a drink purchase, or you can do what I did and take the bus for fifteen minutes to eat crawfish with a beautiful lake view under the sun! I was a bit put-off by the fishy smell of the boiled crawfish in comparison to other crawfish I've had, but any misgivings I had about the quality of the crawfish itself was dispelled with my first bite. These are the cleanest tasting crawfish I've ever had. I've always had some issues describing exactly what crawfish taste like to plebs who've only ever had cocktail shrimp, especially because I am so used to complex sauces and seasonings. They peeled beautifully - I can often tell how fresh a crawfish is by how easily the tail meat slides out whole from the shell, and there was just one crawfish in three pounds that fell apart under my fingers. My only complaint - which could also just be my personal taste - was the lack of taste from the seasoning. I don't know if I've just destroyed my tastebuds with all the ridiculously spicy food I've eaten or what, but I could barely taste saltiness, let alone any sort of spice. They were good crawfish, just not what I expected from Cajun crawfish. (Or maybe it was just an off batch?)

Love this place for fresh and boiled seafood. Tons of frozen options too for take home. Reasonable prices. Definitely give them a call ahead to check that they have some of what you want cause they do run out. Parking can be tough some days, don’t part in the grocery store lot.
