As a tradition every year following the last day of Jazz Fest our group has dinner at Cafe Degas. In past years the food and service were great, however this year was disappointing. Three in our party ordered the escargot and all were served lukewarm. I was served the lump crab salad which I found skimpy for the price. We ordered a bottle of wine that was not delivered until we had completed our dinner so we sent it back. Seems things have changed at Cafe Degas or it was just an off night but we will rethink dinner at Cafe Degas next year.

The vibe in this place was fantastic! And the food was great! We were a party of 6, and everyone absolutely loved their meals. I would definitely return for another meal!

We visited for brunch on a weekday. The best part of our experience was sitting on the patio, people watching, and enjoying our romantic surroundings. We shared a cheese board; I ordered the French onion soup and the omelet of the day; and my partner ordered the steak frites. The cheese board was nice, but probably could have benefited from some spreadables. For my taste, and for lack of a better word, it just felt too “dry,” and as though something else was needed to bring the flavors together. My French onion soup was easily the highlight of the meal and bursting with flavor.Per the daily menu, my omelet was supposed to be purely vegetarian, so I was surprised when I bit into it and discovered that it contained a very strong, very off-putting seafood flavor, as though it was prepared using utensils that had been used for someone else’s crawfish dish. Imagine if I had a shellfish allergy . . .My partner didn’t care for his steak frites, but that was more to do with his personal preferences, and the steak being prepared & presented in a non-traditional way (in a gravy). Our waitress gave off some strange vibes. Whenever we spoke to her, she would look at us in silence for an uncomfortably long period of time. Also, it seemed she was frustrated with us for ordering too much food and being indecisive about how much of it we should box up and take home with us. After we paid, I used the restroom and crossed paths with her on my way back to the table. Not only did she not say something like “Thank you” or “Have a good day,” she wouldn’t even make eye contact. For an establishment of this reputation, with these prices, I expect better service.

Lovely French inspired restaurant with excellent food. I had the cold potato soup and mussels. Flavorful and fresh. Super hectic night that I went so the service was wonky but I’m sure theyre are much more on top of it when it’s calmer.

Was still hungry after leaving this restaurant. Portion sizes pretty small, and there was not much flavor to the lamb chops.

Maybe it was because it is Jazz Fest week but we had heard that Cafe Degas was a very romantic place to dine, but it certainly wasn't. Hurried and hectic, loud with classic rock ( don't get me wrong, I love classic rock but not for a romantic dinner), a distracted waiter, often disappearing, and even asking if we wanted to see the dessert menu after removing our appetizers and then admitting he forgot we hadn't gotten our entrees yet. The food is good, well designed French which we enjoyed. We will try them again, but not during Jazz Fest.

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for 20+ years. We brought out of town guests this week during Jazz Fest and celebrated a birthday while brunching. I love everything on the menu from light snacking like sharing the cheese or charcuterie boards to full entrees like grits and grillades. Don't skip dessert! Kenzie and all of the staff were amazing!*****

One of my favorite places to eat. It has changed to an informal dining experience we did not care for the music was Loud. The service was great and so was the food. But I do miss the more French feel of long ago. Which made it a special place to dine. dlh.

The four of us visited after Jazz Fest, a very busy time since this restaurant is walking distance from the festival. The menu was a little smaller than usual, but still varied enough to fit a variety of preferences. The service was excellent as were the food and drinks. Ambience was wonderful, as usual, and it's so much fun to be a part of the post festival activity on Esplanade. Reservations necessary on JazzFest days.

Such sumptuous food! So good you will keep thinking about it the next day. Ravioli lived up to expectation and the watermelon gazpacho was amazing. Excellent salads. Can't go wrong with anything here

Best French Onion Soup in a long long time. I also had the steak and my wife had the mussels which were both superb in a very quaint New Orleans neighborhood by far one of our favorite spots one our visit.

Wait staff very Friendly and efficient. I had the liver dish and it was disappointing. Totally different than the dish used to be. No carmelized onions and veggies not well cooked. Liver was average.

It's been one of our favorites forever and the perfect place to go when I'm missing France in a big way. Last night we were very happy to be able to sit outside on the side porch with perfect weather and ambiance. Kenzie, our server was fantastic, there when we needed her but not hovering. I started with Sebastian's excellent Marvin the Martian cocktail. Hubby had a gin French 75 and friend an Aperol Spritz. To start we shared an order of escargots and fried oysters with celeriac remoulade - yum! Friend and I both had the pan seared sheepshead - hers with lentils and a smoked tomato coulis and mine with couscous, asparagus and a beurre blanc sauce. Hubby had braised short ribs. All excellent along with paired wines. A lovely sancerre for the fish and a red (don't remember what kind) for the spare ribs. A shared Flottante for dessert accompanied by an espresso and cappuccino. A truly wonderful evening. We will be back!
