So much this place was going to be so exciting for us, as we are West Texans who appreciate great steakhouses. This one was lining up to be about as good as it could get. Great service, great drinks, great sides.
And then came the beef.
It was not very good quality. My wife’s filet, while one of the easiest things to cook in the steak world, had a peculiar taste about it that I figured was due to less than ideal starting ingredients. It tasted like meat with barely some salt and a whole lot of butter. No real herbs, saved for the bare parsley that was sprinkled on top. That was the same for my 14 ounce New York strip. We cook steak at home with shallots, garlic cloves, rosemary, and thyme. This just didn’t feel like anything was really done to enhance the flavor of, to be honest, less than quality meat.
Considering the word “steak” is in the name of the restaurant, one would figure that is the best thing on the menu. This however, was not the case for Charlie’s Steak House. The crab gratin was great. The salad was great with blue cheese dressing. The onion rings were great. The French fries were great.
The steak was in the middle, at best.

Charlie's is an old New Orleans classic. You can only be a classic for decades by producing product like this and having a staff like this. If ever you travel to New Orleans, put this place on your list of restaurants you must go to. It's located in Uptown New Orleans, not the French Quarter. Just up the street from Pascal Manale's restaurant, another New Orleans classic. It's a quick Uber ride from downtown and the warehouse district.

We came to Charlie’s Steak House for the Coolinary Festival while visiting from Arizona to celebrate a birthday, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Even before arriving, our Uber drivers and locals were cheering for us for choosing Charlie’s, and now we understand why.
This dinner was phenomenal. I ordered the filet mignon cooked perfectly medium, and it was buttery, tender, and unforgettable. I paired it with potatoes au gratin, which were so good I took them to go and even carried them with me on bourbon street to enjoy later. The house salad starter was decent, though a little heavy on the vinegar, but everything else more than made up for it.
What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Our server Amanda was phenomenal and the bartenders were equally amazing. My family and I have not stopped talking about this experience, and we even found ourselves recommending Charlie’s to locals during our visit. We cannot wait to come back the next time we are in New Orleans.

We enjoyed our meal and would go back sometime. They were busy but the service was pretty good. My wife's filet was delicious. The NY Strip that I had was also pretty good. We were disappointed that they ran out of tiramisu but otherwise we had a good meal.

it's a great steak house. there's no menu, you order steak and sides and drinks! it did not disappoint !
Charlie’s Steakhouse is an absolute gem and a true staple of New Orleans! From the moment you walk in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff make you feel right at home. The service is exceptional—friendly, efficient, and always with a smile. But the real star here is the steak. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor, it’s hands down the best steak I’ve ever had. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Charlie’s is a must-visit for an unforgettable dining experience. Five stars all the way!

The waitstaff seamed very upset to see us arrive for our reservation. Travis then continued to be short and rude to our party, mainly the women. The food was okay- though all steaks were undercooked and there were shells in the crab au gratin. Travis also refused to tell us the prices of these foods before we ordered, as they do not “have a menu” so we were told repeatedly. After not splitting the check, understandable, Travis and support staff were visibly irritated that we remained at the restaurant to split the check ourselves before leaving the table. As we didn’t not know prices beforehand, we had to wait until the check was delivered for this process to begin. Update your system, act like you want your patrons business, and do not treat women with such disrespect as to raise your voice.

No joke, the steaks are raw and completely flavorless. I had to add so much salt. Our waiter was rude the second we walked in. He said he didn't know what the prices were and wouldn't check for us. Felt like we were getting scammed the whole time. I get they are trying to keep it old school, but that doesn't mean you have to be pretentious and mean.

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Waiter was rude from the moment we stepped in the door. Half the steaks were undercooked and then they refused to itemize a receipt for a group of 20 and made one person put the $2,000 tab on their card rather than letting people pay for their meals.

Do not go here. There’s better steak at Outback. The service was absolutely terrible and the waiter was so rude from the moment we sat down. If you like your grandmothers basement then I guess you’ll like the atmosphere. Spend your money elsewhere.

Staff and environment wasn't bad but there are no menus, so no prices. They say it's pick whatever ever. Each side was 10 dollars for nasty small portions. They said we serve only steaks cause you came to a steakhouse. Well at least serve a good steak. Order the McSteak at McDonald's and it'll taste better than their 52 dollar 14 oz strip. Burnt on one side and flavorless. Only flavor I got was the A1 I covered it in. Worst 200 dollars I've ever spent. Couldn't tip cause I needed that money to go somewhere else to get a decent meal.. 10 outta 10 don't recommend
