The oysters are great. I kept coming back because the charbroiled oysters with spinach are gluten free! Other locations they are not, only the herb and cheese version are. My friend who isn't gluten free said the gumbo and etouffee wasn't the best. It wasn't flavorful. The drinks are weak and small, so I would bring your own drink or wait to go somewhere else.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free charbroiled oysters variations are available

I read somewhere that they had the best chargrilled oysters in New Orleans and I was not disappointed! These are some of the best! I compared them to Acme oyster bar and preferred these because they were a bit cheesier. I also enjoyed the atmosphere MUCH more. It was quiet, clean and pleasant. I went there in the early evening and there was yet to be a line out of the door. Just a handful of people enjoying a nice meal. The bartenders were amazing as well.

Love the oysters and bread pudding! I've been stopping here for 30 years. A real treat sitting at the oyster bar and watching them shuck, the chargrilled oysters are a must.

Decent food. My 1st in New Orleans. Bit on the expensive side for the ambiance.

We did not enjoy our meals (bland & greasy) and lost our appetites after the table next to us found a hair in their food. Maybe it's good if you just have the oysters which we didn't order. Maybe they're short staffed because we only saw our server for the order and when we asked for the check.

I haven't eaten at every "oyster bar" restaurant in New Orleans BUT I can tell you it would be hard to experience a better one than Desire. The food was phenomenal, oysters were cold and fresh, crab cakes were superb and the Shrimp and Grits were to die for. The servers were prompt, courteous and friendly (Robert is the DUDE). No need to study it...just go here.

This was by far, the most enjoyable stop in my whole visit. The food was EXCELLENT. The peel and eat shrimp were bigger than my hand and fresh. The oysters were so good. The STAFF including the YOUNG MAN who shucked the oysters, his assistant and ESPECIALLY the lady manager were PROFESSIONAL, FUN AND AMAZING!!!!!! I felt like I was at home with my family and enjoying and amazing meal. It is well worth fighting through the traffic downtown. My only regret was not getting the staff members names. I was too busy eating!!!!!!!!!!
