Parkway will ALWAYS be a favorite for me and my family. We absolutely love their poboy’s. This place is #1 in our opinion ❤️
Don't go on days when they will be extra busy, like when they have Thanksgiving dinner poboys or the day after Xmas. One person taking orders. Leaves register to get more cups, use restroom, etc. and line comes to a standstill. The wait in line was over an hour, and the line wasn't *that* long. Food was definitely not worth that wait.
Good "local institution" experience but the food was not worth an almost hour wait in line. Separate drinks line was even worse, with just one bartender who disappeared for minutes at a time to fill "porch swing" orders. Sort it out.

Delicious Po-Boys!! We got the fried shrimp, catfish, and grilled chicken. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I would gladly eat here again!

Consistently one of the best places in the city to get poor boys. They always over stuff them and I want to either sharing or taking halfway. Just wish the service was a bit faster.
Parking: All tables are outside so be prepared for the weather.

If you're visiting New Orleans, there’s one spot that you must experience at least once: Parkway Bakery & Tavern. Known for serving up some of the city’s best po'boys, Parkway is a legendary local favorite that everyone raves about. My party of three made our way there for a Saturday lunch, arriving just after 11 a.m., and the place was packed. By the time we arrived, the line to order stretched out the door and into the courtyard.
Parkway offers online advanced ordering, which I highly recommend utilizing for convenience, but if you prefer to order in person, their system is fairly streamlined. We still waited about 15-20 minutes to get to the counter, and the wait for food was another 15 minutes or so. While the wait might feel long, it's partly because you’ll need some time to find an open table. There’s no waitstaff here, so seating is first come, first served. By the time we got our food around noon, the line was wrapped all the way around the block, so if you can, try to visit during off-peak hours.
When it came time to eat, we went for a mix of the more popular options: the Parkway Surf and Turf Po'Boy (a combo of fried shrimp and roast beef with gravy), the Louisiana Catfish Po'Boy (fully dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and remoulade), and a classic Reuben on rye. The catfish and Reuben were both fantastic—flavorful, satisfying, and a perfect showcase of what Parkway does best. The catfish was crispy, fresh, and perfectly paired with the tangy remoulade, while the Reuben had all the right balance of savory and tangy with its layers of corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese.
However, the Surf and Turf Po'Boy didn’t quite hit the mark. This is more of a design flaw than anything else—while the sandwich has all the right elements, the gravy ended up overpowering the delicate fried shrimp and roast beef. The gravy made the sandwich messy and added a heaviness that drowned out the other flavors. The roast beef got lost in the mix, and the fried shrimp, which should have been the star, were overshadowed by the sogginess from the gravy. It’s a messy, albeit flavorful, sandwich that ultimately wasn’t as enjoyable as the simpler po'boys we tried.
Overall, we had a great experience at Parkway. The atmosphere is casual and bustling, with a true New Orleans charm. While the Surf and Turf Po'Boy didn’t quite live up to expectations, we’ll definitely be back to try more of their classic offerings, especially the catfish and Reuben. A word of advice—be prepared to wait, especially if you visit during peak hours, and plan your visit for a quieter time if you want to avoid the rush. Parkway Bakery & Tavern is a must-try for anyone visiting New Orleans, offering an authentic taste of po'boy heaven that’s worth the wait!
Vegetarian options: some options as long as you can eat seafood
Parking: street parking only which is also residential.
Kid-friendliness: great option for kids
Wheelchair accessibility: mostly located outside in a courtyard. However there are stairs to get into the courtyard as well as it's very congested most of the time

Love Parkway! My husband loves the Surf-n-Turf and I love the fried shrimp poboys. Their Bloody Mary's are also BOMB!
This time we hit up Parkway on a Wednesday before heading to the airport. Waiting 50 minutes in line to order. Took 10 minutes to get food. Took about 45 minutes to eat. Give yourself plenty of time.....or try getting there when they open.
Parkway is a must every time we visit NOLA (once or twice every year or 2)!

My honest opinion of PARKWAY, the atmosphere is good, the service; the only problem I had with the service was the older gentleman who was taking my order was rude when I was asking questions about the menu. I had never been here before and wasn’t familiar with the menu. As I was about to pay for the order I decided to add something to the order and he seemed to get upset because I wanted to add something. He made the statement “I have to start this all over again.”
I will say the Kitchen looked like they were working hard and doing a great job getting those orders out in a timely manner.
The food; the consistency of the sandwich was great, I just wasn’t impressed with the taste and the fact that the bread was hard as a rock. The place seemed overpriced as we paid $40 for 1 small sandwich and 1 large sandwich and no drinks. We were going to get a drink but we didn’t want to add anything else to the order and ‘inconvenience’ the cashier any further.
On a positive note as I was leaving I went to use the restroom and it was clean, the staff did a great job at keeping the restrooms clean.
I decided to check out this place because I heard it was good but I just wasn’t impressed as a local who has had po-boys across the city.
Parking: Parking is located in the rear of the restaurant.

Didn’t get to take a picture but wow! My husband and I visited last week and this has to be the best spot we’ve had in New Orleans and we have been visiting for years. It was a Saturday and the line was down the sidewalk but it was worth the wait . We had the shrimp bbq / fish poboy , mixed fries with gravy , and gumbo! Everything was good. If you want to be away from bourbon, authentic food and worth your money , come here ! We will be back our next trip , you will not be disappointed and it’s not your average tourist spot
