If Jean Lafitte opened a coffee shop and let you crash in his bedroom, this would be it.
Tucked into a quiet pedestrian alley off Conti Street, Pirate King Coffee is a caffeine-fueled fever dream of pirate memorabilia, buttery espresso, and civic charm. You walk in expecting kitsch and walk out with a bag of beans and a new favorite flat white.
Drink this: Brown sugar cinnamon flat white or the Cortado with butter pecan—both taste like New Orleans gave you a hug and a high-five. Chicory Café au Lait if you want to go full Louisiana.
Buy this: Their house-roasted beans (especially the chicory blend) are worth hauling home. Veteran-owned, so your purchase supports more than just your morning buzz.
Touch this: Pirate hats, skulls, treasure chests, and trinkets galore. The merch wall is half souvenir shop, half pirate cosplay starter kit.
Peek at this: The Captain’s Quarters in the back, a bedroom setup that’s part museum, part mood board for your next Airbnb. No, you can’t sleep there. Yes, you’ll want to.
Staff are warm, witty, and happy to explain the difference between a Scallywag and a Shaken Cappuccino. Sit inside or grab a table in the breezy alley and pretend you’re plotting your next voyage, or your next fast food concept.
Arrr-right, this one’s a gem. Go.

This place has the best coffee I’ve found in the French Quarter. I prefer my coffee to taste like coffee with accompanying flavors, everywhere else it tastes like I’m drinking milk with essence of coffee, but not at The Pirate King! It’s actually coffee! Service is top notch coffee is amazing and it’s a cool little shop. Highly recommend if you like coffee.

The coffee was so good I finished it before even walking a block away from the shop. I appreciate Sam for taking the time to talk about the coffees and the differences in them. Highly recommended!

Absolutely fun and gorgeous! If you're into pirate history, lore, and decour this cafe is the place to be. Unlike a few other pirate offerings in NOLA this location not only has custom patches, shirts, and other themed items, but actual artifacts and hand carved pieces to observe and enjoy. From the consumer aspect, the coffee shop inside was a fantastic alternative to Starbucks, with home ground blends served with different pastries. We had a great conversation with Sam, who ran everything by herself that day in an endless stream of walk-ins while maintaining complete politeness and even giving helpful tips while making 3 different coffee/teas/and lemonades at once. 10/10 would escape Bourbon St and hide in this store anytime!

** Point proven, given the chat GPT-esque response to negative feedback. Horrible service. Get your coffee elsewhere. Also, your “museum grade artifacts” had price tags. Hence why a customer would indeed want to look at them like “trinkets in a gift shop.”
Too bad I cant leave a negative star review for the creepy nanny cam vibes.
Today was my second time visiting this coffee shop and it was far worse than my first experience.
The coffee is great, but the customer service is horrible. I would rather wait in line at Cafe Du Monde on a hot day, than support a business that employs rude staff.
A customer was looking at merchandise when the woman behind the front desk belittled him for handling the product without asking for help. I understand you may not want patrons touching things, but there weren’t any signs advising to ask for assistance. He also didn’t drop or break anything so her reaction seemed to come out of the blue. She continued to condescend him loudly in front of other customers, meanwhile the gentleman remained extremely polite and calm during the entire ordeal.
This wont be my last trip to New Orleans, but it certainly was my last visit to Pirate Kings Coffee.

This place had drinks so good me and my family came back twice! The baristas mastery of the machine is what pulled us in, her kindness and dedication towards customers brought us back.
She was Genuine and an over all neat person to talk to. Gave us great recommendations on what to do around town.
All around a fun place, the pirate atmosphere is unlike any you’ll find around town

The pros: Best Coffee in the city. Baristas are friendly and top notch. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
The cons: I still haven’t been allowed to jump on the super comfy looking bed in the Captains Cabin.
A must stop if you are in New Orleans.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming coffee shop, and I must say, the coffee here is truly great. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. Although I was looking forward to trying their espresso, unfortunately, their machine was down during my visit. However, the regular coffee I had was still delicious and satisfying. What really stood out to me, though, was the atmosphere - it's awesome. The decor and ambiance are perfectly balanced, creating a cozy and inviting space that's perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee. Despite not being able to try the espresso, I would definitely come back to this coffee shop in the future, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee and a pleasant experience. The friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for coffee lovers.
