Food was quite good as always. About our 4th time, or so to eat there. The issues are this: it is incredibly noisy. PLEASE put up some wall hangings or rugs or something to muffle the din, and please turn off the music in the background which no one can hear and just adds to the challenge of visiting with friends at the same table. Honestly -enough of an issue to keep us from coming back. Second, the waiter, who may have had too much to do to be honest, was very hard to understand not just because of the noisiness of the place, but no one has ever taught him how to interact with customers. He talks fast, mumbles has a pitch to his voice that does not project, especially when it became noisy, and he was not patient in explaining the options, We didn't see him much either, but again I think the place was understaffed that night. But places like this need to understand that ultimately, good or great food will not keep you up and running and successful in this city if not also accompanied by great customer service. Which it was not.
Delicious food - fantastic service - a lovely atmosphere! I'll be back soon and tell my friends about this incredible place!
Saj is in the location of the former Middle Eastern restaurant, Mona's, but is a bit more elegant. But it's the food that is the focus. It was my first time, so I followed the lead of the one of our 4-person group experienced with Saj, and ordered a lunch plate, the Yemeni chicken shawarma with a tamarind soda. The plate had generous portions of the uniquely delicious shawarma, saffron rice, hummus, and a flavorful salad - as well as the excellent saj bread which is so light & dusted with za'atar & a touch of olive oil. It was all wonderful, & I look forward to returning & exploring the rest of the menu!
Went there for the first time and it was great! Took a special person on a first date there and we loved it. The food, service, and atmosphere was outstanding. Will definitely go back.
We really enjoyed experiencing all the unique flavors and dishes at Saj. I would order any of the dishes we had a second time. The lamb and the paella were delicious. The small plates we tried (the baked feta, goat cheese with honey, muhamara, and grilled olives) were each amazing. We were scraping the plates clean with the paratha.
We had a very good dinner. Two of us shared a salad, shawarma, Muhammara and the cheese cake for desert. All amazing.
Everything was so good especially the baked feta and kufta. Very friendly service, can't wait to be back ❤️
Oh my goodness...the lamb chops are so yummy! The staff is friendly and I love the vibe here.
Food was incredible! Baked feta with fresh bread was fantastic. Tahini salad with chicken was light and fresh and perfect. Chicken was amazing!
Food is always really good, nice cozy atmosphere. Loved the baked feta, paella and pomegranate chicken Kabab!

The hummous was very bland, the falafel-meh, Kufka was the least tasty of my selections. The accompanying sauces were very different from I expected. Saffron rice? What saffron? Only turmeric as much as I could tell. Maybe this restaurant’s menu originates from a different part of the middle East than I am more accustomed to…Israel and Lebanon. I gave them a second try because it’s a neighborhood place but in New Orleans, one strike is usually an out, and two strikes are definitely an out.
Saj was a perfect dinner experience! The food arrived very quickly. Everything was delicious and just the right serving size. The atmosphere was great as well as the lowkey music that was playing. Service was exceptional and the staff was very pleasant!

I’ve never dined in, but I frequently order on delivery and Saj consistently has the best Middle Eastern food in the city. You can tell everything is made from scratch. Food is fresh, flavorful, and unique.

As a middle eastern it is the WORSE RESTAURANTS I have ever been too! Food is not all that's, service as well!
