The tacos were delicious, had the duck, fried fish, and another one with jalapenos slaw that was delicious! The Calamari was the best we have had in the United States

We were excited to finally try Rum House after hearing many rave reviews but our experience was very disappointing. We were sat quickly on a Saturday night so this is a positive. Initially, we ordered a few appetizers and drinks. The appetizers arrived in a reasonable amount of time as did the drinks. However, the experience soured from there. Our meals never arrived and our waitress really didn't check on us for drinks or provide any explanation on our meals. After an extended period, half of the meals ordered appeared and they were cold and looked like they had sat for while. The other meals never arrived. Our waitress again offered no explanations and was less than adequate on keeping drinks filled. Finally, we go ask about our other meals and there is no explanation. We asked for manager. Still no explanation from the waitress nor drink refills. The manager comes out after about 15-minutes but by this team our patience was worn thin. We asked for the bill of the stuff we actually received. When we received the bill, it still included entrees we never received. And then the waitress tried to scurry off with the machine while it was still on the tip screen. We caught it and finalized the transaction but this left yet more bad taste in our mouth. I give it two stars on the strength of the appetizers - tuna ceviche and nachos. Don't think we will ever go back.

Let me start by saying the service was exceptional, quick, and friendly. The issues I have with Rum House are related to cleanliness and lack of spice. The bathroom, especially the sink, was disgusting. I'm talking about New Orleans' grossest dive bar bathroom times 4. For a place with a decent reputation, I do not understand why the bathroom is that awful and standards so low... The other issue I had was with the spice of the food; it simply wasn't there. Straight up missing. Like... typical white person cooking barely any salt type no spice. The chicken was a wonderful moisture content, though! So it was cooked wonderfully, but seasoned like it was the chef's first day cooking. I asked for anything to spice it up, spicier than the Tobasco at the table, and our waitress said the Chipotle Adobo Sauce was the spiciest they had. She did not mention that they charged for sauce, which was disappointing. But even more disappointing was the fact that the sauce barely had any flavor and, I kid you not, capital Z, Zero spice whatsoever. Rum House was not the experience we were looking for, unfortunately. But it could have easily been...

So, you want to start with a frozen blueberry Mojito, and an appetizer of Damn good Nachos. If you’re by yourself, you’re done but if you’re eating with friends, you may have room for more. lol Chili glaze shrimp and carolina bbq are my top 2 tacos, while the grilled jerk red fish is my favorite entree. Don’t leave without a Painkiller, and if you want to be different, sub your pork on your nachos for Steak, it’s sweet and I believe pineapple marinated. Enjoy!

Was impressed with portions at this restaurant. Started out with the Jamaican Beef Patties which had a good combination of heat and sweet. Then we had the Grilled Jerked Red Fish. Outstanding! Great service, too. Recommended!
