We dined on Christmas Eve and had the best time. Perfect service, perfect cocktails, and perfect food all around. Hands down the best tuna tartare in Boston.

We were curious to check out 1928, having known it as the home of Persian restaurant, Lala Rokh, for more than 20 years. The decor has an “upscale casual” vibe and the food is mostly casual fare, nothing overly complicated. We started with the burrata, something you can find in many places and nothing extraordinary. The lobster tortellini and rigatoni bolognese were, likewise, unremarkable. The scallop truffle risotto was a bit lumpy, underseasoned and lacking truffle flavor. Dessert was just OK. Overall, the ambience was nice, albeit a bit loud, and the food was competent but didn’t blow us away.

My friend and I made reservations over a month ago to celebrate the Christmas season. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready which is understandable on a busy Saturday night. However, when we were seated 15 mins later we were disappointed to see our table was right by the door in an awkward spot. We asked if we could possibly have another table as we didn’t just walk in and made reservation ages ago (wrongly assumed that meant something) but were told all other tables were spoken for. When we asked about another table for two that was empty but in a more preferred spot…we were told that was for a reservation. When we reminded them we also had a reservation, we were told due to a computer system we had to be at the table assigned to us. Since I dine out a lot, this was a confusing and a strange policy to me. I asked again why we couldn’t move to the empty table for two and were told the system wouldn’t allow for that. All I can say is….we stuck it out at the unfortunate table only to see a super young couple get seated at the better table. During our time there both that table and the one next to them became vacant and no one else occupied them. I can’t think of any reasonable explanation as to why we were prohibited from sitting there. Our waiter was slow to take out order and rarely checked in (also had body odor). Food and drinks were great but service was too off putting to return. I personally feel that when people reserve a table a month in advance (actually think it was closer to two months), they should not get the worst table in the place. And certainly not be told they can’t move over to an empty available table.

Great atmosphere and service. Good variety of specialty cocktails, including some seasonal choices.

The food was delicious- steak was a perfect medium rare and the cream brûlée had just the right amount of sweetness.

Tough brunch at this restaurant on Saturday. Staff was shorthanded which resulted in difficult shifts for all. ( our server was mixing drinks when we walked past the bar.)
My $18.00 drink was only filled to the $12.00 level and someone has to answer for that hash? Terribly overpriced for suspect food.
( hamburger in hash?)

Went here for my sister birthday, and had a great time. There was a small accident that could have set a bad vibe on the night yet they rectified and made the night amazing. Great staff, service, and food! 5/5 would recommend!

We sat in the “library” room and loved it, the service was great, the wine amazing, and food was also pretty great.

This place has an island, Cabana, feel in the middle of Beacon Hill. It has an air of sophistication, but I didn't really care for how uptight the hostesses were. I walked in after a shift at the hospital, properly dressed. But they look you up and down as if to make sure you can pay for the meal. I didn't really care for the eyes of judgement. Although I may be assuming but you are in a customer service industry. Which means, put a smile on and be personable. Both girls were pretty but your attitude bliws. I know I didn't make a reservation on a Tuesday but you can always offer a bar table. But instead, what you did was say there's no table available and look down at your very busy computer life or your phones instead of providing a solution. We had to ask and pry for information. On a side note, the waiter was very polite and personable. The food was good but not what was paid for. I would not give it five stars. My bf asked if we would go back, not for that level of immaturity. No. The drinks would be the only reason. Great job bartender.

Kid-friendliness: Not the menu or the tight place

Food was good and reasonably priced for the USA. Nicely furnished, but unfortunately the air conditioning was working despite autumnal temperatures. Staff was courteous.

Our recent dinner at 1928 was a fantastic experience, elevated by the exceptional service. The gin martinis were a great start, and the steak frites and Filet Mignon were delicious pairs perfect with the bottle of Gaja we got to share. But what truly stood out was our server's impeccable attention. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured we had everything we needed without being intrusive. We'll definitely be back.
