Lackluster experience here after ordering a 6” chestnut birthday cake. I expected it to have 2 layers and it to contain the light, airy chestnut I’m used to having at other Chinese cake bakeries but it was one layer with the top layer a sickenly sweet, dense “chestnut” (tasted more like mung bean) filling and a mound of whipped cream. You can tell even from the untouched cake picture that the top is mostly cream and filling. For $42 it was not worth it at all. I won’t be back.
I buy the durian cake here for every one of my family members birthdays. Their cakes are layered with fresh fruits and actual durian fruit. The prices are very reasonable. I’ve been going here for many years and they maintain the quality throughout the years. American cakes are boring and way to sweet.
The mango cake is not very tasty, and expensive.Saw rave reviews about this cake and got it for my mango-loving daughter's birthday. Unfortunately it's nicer to look at than to eat.For those who are considering it, the cake consists of lightly sweet white sponge cake (reminiscent of dense white Wonder Bread in texture and taste) with whipped cream and mango chunks between layers, topped with mango slices. The mango is tart and not very flavorful. I was hoping it would be filled with some type of mango mousse, but it's not.I imagine their other fruit cake is similar, but would probably work better as the strawberries and/or other berries would complement the light cake and cream better than the tart and tasteless mango.
I bought 2 boxes ( identical) of pastries for my brothers and dropped off since I am on business In Boston. Received this text from one of them after I dropped pastries off and on way home. Very angry. ! It was hard as a rock. The bao bao were fresh. But the individual pieces of cake aren’t. I guess they don’t move fast enough and they don’t throw it out. Just keep selling it.
Excellent cakes made with real ingredients (cream and fruit)! Yummy!
Stingy and money pinching. They'll charge you extra or add on a tip without you realizing. Cake is stale. Service is always rude. Avoid
Fruit and cream cakes are delicious and not too sweet. Best custard cream buns. I have never been disappointed by any of their baked buns. This is my family's favorite Chinatown bakery.
Please be careful when you buy from this bakery! I bought a 6 inch taro cake ($30), a bun ($3) and sponge cake ($1.65) from this place for $34.65 and was charged $39.65. I then called the lady and asked what happened and then she said that I have write in the tip line for $5 when I know that I did not do that since I just went there to pick up the cake and left quickly for the birthday party! I then asked her to send me the receipt that I have wrote in the tip line for $5 and she said she can’t since I did it in the machine. I was like what machine ?! I know $5 is not a lot of money but it is NOT RIGHT to SCAM customer like that and then hung up on the phone with them ! This will be my first and last time buying from them ever again!!! So please pay attention to your receipt and the tip line. Also, their sponge cake tastes old and the taro cake has too much cream!

It was the first time I had been. My husband begged to go on our trip to Boston. It was the best cake I have ever had.

Got this cake for my birthday and my family and I loved it! Its not too sweet and spongy. The fruit was fresh. I reccomend this cake to all to try for yourselves.
Try the char so baos. They’re my fave. Also the cakes here are AMAZING
Visiting Boston and stumbled into Eldo’s. It is a no frills bakery but the pastries were on point, flaky pastry on the egg custard, the almond cake was moist and delectable, the steamed buns with meat had plenty of filling and fresh. The tiramisu had equal blends of coffee and chocolate. With all this said, it was inexpensive. Will make sure to return next time we’re back to Boston.;0)
Nice little shop Every pastry is appealing to eyes, flavors are on point what more could you ask for. Definite must try.
Eldo is my favorite bakery in Chinatown! With the freshest, flakiest, softest pastries and bread, I always stop in whenever I come into the city. Everything here is super affordable, the people behind the counter make it easy to order if you don't speak any Chinese, and there's always something if you have a sweet tooth or are looking for something savory. Pictured is the green tea swiss roll.Look on the wall right above the bakery case on the left - there's a menu of all of the buns and baos not in the pastry case (like the char siu, custard, and red bean baos). I always carry cash because of this place.
