waitress was rude and unprofessional. the restaurant was only half-full with at least 4 open tables, but she insisted on sitting us in the back in a dark corner on a shared table with another group. when we asked if we could opt for one of the other open tables she said that it’s a busy time so she wants to reserve those seats in case other costumers come. prioritizing these imaginary future customers over the 4 paying customers in front of you is incredibly jarring and unprofessional. there is no reservation system at futago, so we purposefully came early at 5:55/6:00pm to secure a table. there was nobody else in line.
we just moved a few blocks away, but this experience just lost futago a bunch of potential regulars. please do better.

I’ve been coming to Futago Udon for about 3 years now, and it used to be one of my go-to spots for udon—especially their cold udons, which is usually refreshing and consistently good. Unfortunately, my recent visits have been disappointing due to the service. Staff have been unexpectedly rude, and the overall attitude has made the experience uncomfortable. It’s disheartening to see this decline, as I used to really enjoy coming here. I sincerely hope they improve their service soon—good food alone isn’t enough to make up for poor treatment.

please come here if you love eating mid expensive food, and like being treated poorly by the waiters
came in at 6 pm on a tuesday with a party of 4, around 70% of the restaurant was empty. we were asked to either share a table with other people OR WAIT for them to leave. they had 4+ sets of tables for two free. we had 4 people, its not like we would order less if we used two tables. the waitress was very cold and rude. generally unpleasant.
let's be honest, just because udon is overall bleak in boston, it doesn't make a mid restaurant good. this spot is almost double the price as yume but with the ego of an actual japanese restaurant run by japanese people (it's not). your bad deeds and service will catch up.

We order sukiyaki udon, cold mentaiko, cold Niku ramen. Portions were good size but also not cheap, 25+ dollars for a bowl. Cold mentaiko was too greasy with too much cream and we could not finish. We ordered two appetizers Takoyaki and grilled squid. It was good but nothing memorable. We were charged 18% tip for a party of five without being notified, and almost tipped twice. Will not return for average food and below average services.

Very large bowl of ramen with a reasonable price.
The beef was very flavorful and soft.
The noodles were perfectly cooked.

Favorite place to get Udon in Boston, I absolutely love coming here on a chilly day and a good lunch with friends. Service is always wonderful and the food never disappoints.

Cute place! Kind of pricy, but the bowls are huge and the menu has sooo many options! I personally love any of the creamy broths with crab, such a unique taste

Nice quiet place. Staff were nice. I had the sukiyaki udon which was pretty good. My daughter had the cold Zara udon which she really liked.

Tried the Uni Cream Udon ($32), Sukiyaki Udon ($24), and Chicken Tatsuta-Age ($9). Both the udons were delicious - great flavor in both. Cream udon was very creamy and the uni and crab made the dish better. The sukiyaki was light but also savory. The portion sizes are pretty large too, so I guess that justifies the prices. My two biggest complaints are that they charged us an extra $6 for “better” uni since they were out of the original uni that comes with the cream udon. If you’re out, that’s on you and you shouldn’t be up-charging $6 for a different uni OR offer the cream udon without uni at a lower price. The second issue is that the service is pretty lackluster - they don’t really care for you after you place your order and they rush you out. This has potential for 5/5 food, but the bad service and up charge left me with a bad experience.

Fantastic labeled vegan options. Had the sweet potato tempura and Udon soup. Both excellent!

I visited this udon restaurant today after hearing great things about their sea urchin udon. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The sea urchin looked off in color, not the usual bright yellow, and tasted very unfresh with a strong chemical-like flavor, almost like formalin. When I brought this up to the server, their response was quite rude and dismissive, saying I had almost finished it, even though I only took a few bites. They did replace the dish with a pork and kimchi udon, but it wasn’t much better, with too much fat on the pork. Overall, not a great dining experience, and I won't come back.
