It’s been 10 years since I first came, it looks like no one has done a deep clean since then. It’s dingy. Upstairs is blocked off. The chairs are stained. The broth is lumpy when it arrives. I wouldn’t recommend or return.

Absolutely the Worst Dining Experience – Avoid at All Costs
If you're considering dining at Kaze Shabu Shabu, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. We had one of the most disappointing, uncomfortable, and downright rude experiences we've ever had at a restaurant.
Upon arrival, we were seated and handed menus—decent enough start. But that’s where the courtesy ended. No one bothered to ask if we’d been there before, no explanation of the menu, the broths, or how anything worked. It felt like we were an inconvenience just for showing up.
The table had two burners—only one worked, so we were forced to awkwardly crowd around the working side. Strike one. The food itself? Subpar, and that’s putting it kindly. Our broths were overly salty, and no one checked on us once during the meal to offer a refill or even ask if we needed anything. We sat there with empty waters the entire time, and trying to get anyone’s attention was like waving into a void.
We attempted multiple times to flag down our server, an older woman who we honestly felt was deliberately avoiding us. She glanced our way often but never came over. We had to flag down a busboy to finally pay our bill.
The sauce bar? Practically empty. Flavored milk teas? Absolutely disgusting—murky, lukewarm, with melted ice floating on top. No flavor, no sweetness, and just undrinkable.
The most infuriating part came at the end. My partner left a 10% tip—frankly generous considering the abysmal service—and the server confronted us about it. She demanded a 15% minimum and told us we wouldn’t be served again unless we complied. Then she scoffed at us, dragged the payment device away, and loudly complained to her coworkers about the tip while glaring in our direction.
That kind of aggressive, entitled behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I personally would’ve left no tip after that display. The only thing this place has going for it is that it’s open late—but that’s not worth being treated like trash.
Final verdict: Never coming back, and wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. Save your time, money, and dignity. Kaze Shabu Shabu is a hard pass.

Note: The food was overall good, although the thai and taro milk tea tasted like artificial powder watered down.
My first experience here and service I received here was HORRIBLE.
They didn’t come or even ask if we want refill our waters, didn't even bother pouring in more broth when our hotpot was obvious getting low. Don’t get me started on tipping.. The server was holding the iPad and was just INTENSELY staring at my sister’s boyfriend as he was choosing what to tip; staring problem much.. then she pulled away when he tried tipping 10$ then started demanding for a 15% tip..? We don’t NEED to tip, tipping is OPTIONAL, not required. The server also gave my sister’s boyfriend a death stare when he tipped 10$, and she said they weren’t gonna serve us if we come back !!🤣🤣

Mixed about the tonkatsu ramen. Not a fan of the noodles, but they're passable. The soup was okay. The charsiu was good. Egg was good. Overall...eh.
Filthy spot

Best hot pot around! Love the staff here too!
moderately confusing to order for more than two people; though it's hard to order something you don't want as long as you like spicy.

I have been a frequent customer at this restaurant for several years. Their Tom yum broth is one of my favorite in town, which is why I have always returned. The last two times I visited I noticed the cleanliness of the restaurant and quality of the food has drastically gone down. My last visit here, I noticed a bug on the lettuce. I kindly pointed it out to the server and asked for a new one. The second lettuce came out and again, had bugs on it. The server never apologized and a manager never spoke to us. There were also several flies in the restaurant and around the sauce station. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
I literally just left there. My boyfriend and I just left there. I noticed that they inputted an automatic gratuity for 2 PEOPLE! That’s completely insane as I work in the service industry. Confronted the server who I had seen ONCE in the 2 annd half hours I was there and had to continually keep looking for him for things needed. I’ve been there numerous times and maybe I never noticed before but I noticed this time for the gratuity. Maybe they’re racial to be honest because my boyfriend is black. But I do not like the fact that we had spent almost $200 alone then the auto gratuity for someone that was not even present. They were attending a group. An Asian group. Which I am Asian but also find it neglectful that we were neglected and even the customers next to me I asked about the auto gratuity they said they haven’t even received their check when they were there way before us. So can someone help me make it make sense? I used to love coming here but now that I know the dirty work I’m going to spread it amongst my industry people! I do not tolerate it when it was ONLY 2 people!!!

Decent food in Chinatown! The beef platter was a good deal, lots of meat. The restaurant is pretty tired and service wasn’t great. The a la carte menu had large portions for the veggies but expensive to get a lot of different options.
