Dining at Legal Sea Foods, ideally situated in the Theater District. The service is excellent, the food is exceptional, and the atmosphere is thoroughly pleasant

I know it’s Downtown Crossing, so I intentionally chose Legal Seafood because I honestly believed they would hold themselves to a higher standard than the other restaurants in that notoriously grimy part of Boston. Sat at the bar to grab dinner before a show and there’s instantly a noticeable amount of grey dust and old crumbs on the large black bar columns, large black spots on the yellow, backlit drop ceiling panels above the bar, and chunks of old food on the floor around the barstools. The bathroom looked & smelled like a street corner. Yup - I’m definitely in Downtown Crossing!

Whatever. I’m in the city, it’s part of it, let’s just get to the food because the place is starting to fill up and my tanks are empty. Ordered my usual trout, mashed & broccoli. Trout was overcooked, broccoli was delicious and the potatoes were so salty, they were inedible.

Service was excellent. Bartender was attentive & knowledgeable with just the right amount of friendly. (Although I did have to forage for my own napkin & silverware)

I love Legal Sea Foods. I’m from here and I’ve visited most of them in the Boston area and I almost always order the exact same thing every time. I am shocked at the state of this Downtown Crossing location. Probably just a victim of its surroundings, but I had higher expectations as a result of visiting so many other of their locations and personally experienced the quality they’re capable of.

Good service. Clam chowder good as always but fish tacos were terrible. Coleslaw was so sour and bitter I had to push myself to eat it. Good torillas, though. Legal Sea Food keeps going downhill, putty

We were early for our reservation, but they seated us right away. Our server was amazing! She was friendly and attentive throughout our time there. I love that they have a very extensive kid's menu, which is a rarity among nicer restaurants in my experience. All of our meals were perfect! The house cab was nice. My reason for the 4-rating on value is because I don't think a house red should cost $30 for a glass, even in Boston. But honestly, this was a great experience from beginning to end.

Had the pleasure of dining here yesterday, I have celiac disease and there are endless delicious options here that are gluten free. They even brought me gluten free bread. What an unexpected but amazing experience!

Great experience. Had a lovely experience with my friend and we had oysters lobster bisque, lobster roll and musselss, the service was excellent.

Delicious clam chowder. I recommend it without the oyster chips, it's good enough on its own.

As Boston Ballet fans, there is no better place for a pre-ballet dinner than Legal Sea Foods-Downtown Crossing. The menu is varied and easy to customize, the food is delicious and the service is welcoming and timely. AND the location right across from the Citizens Opera House makes the perfect dining location for us. I am still savoring the scrumptious Arctic Char meal I had there last night!

Legal Sea Food never disappoints. I had the King Salmon and Rainbow Trout. It was cooked to perfection, and the presentation was beautiful.

Great food and service.
On a pinch, if alone or no space, door at bar to access full menu

Waiter excellent, food, as always, very good (love the new menu) but encountered the usual arrival issue: hostess trying to hide the old couple behind a pillar when so many other empty tables. Not impressed. (FYI - we just moved the table rather than argue with her.) She lost the one star.
