Sushi @ Temple Records, a new sushi restaurant nestled in downtown Boston, has quickly become a gem for sushi enthusiasts. Situated in the basement of Temple Records, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a sophisticated sushi counter and a subtle backdrop of vinyl tracks that lend a distinct vibe.
The menu features a concise selection of makimono, assorted sushi and sashimi, and individual nigiri pieces. Customers have praised the quality of the sushi, which parallels that of many mid-tier omakase spots in the city. The standouts among the 7-piece Moriwase include the akami, chutoro, and kanpachi, while the uni was slightly milder in flavor.
The makimono options, such as the Negi toro and Kanpachi, are budget-friendly and exceptional, with the shiso providing a nice aromatic undertone. The highlight, however, is the signature Tera Maki, which surprisingly includes premium ingredients like chutoro, uni, and inure at a reasonable price point.
The restaurant's ambiance is described as upscale yet laid-back, with a quiet and intimate atmosphere. Chef Kenta Katagai, known for his expertise, shapes each piece of sushi to perfection in view of diners. Customers have enjoyed personalized service, being able to talk with the chef and learn about the dishes. While there were minor inconsistencies in service, particularly on the opening day, the overall experience has been praised as a one-of-a-kind dining experience in Boston worth trying.
