I tried to book a table at this restaurant since a friend recommended it but was turned down the first time with no reservation option available but a waitlist. We went on the waitlist the second time only to find out we accidentally cancelled our spot so when we got there and told them what happened they turned us down the 2nd time! Well we thought since we live close by the third time would be a success. But I should’ve trusted the universe arrangement and not bothered. The food was bland and the ramen tasted like it was made out of a box. The horrible service made the food taste worse. They make you order and then wait another 20 minutes (even though it says no queue on their website) just to be served a mediocre ramen dish. Don’t believe the hype.

the karaage was soooooo good. juicy, unbelievably tender, all contained within a wonderful crispy-but-not-oily potato starch batter. served with a acidic soy based sauce to contrast.hope to see more people come through this place.

Small and not much ambiance. Food is amazing. Definitely recommend tan tan. Love for take out.

'Open' but not currently seating for whatever reason even though there are empty chained off tables. This means that you need to sit at Ganko Ittetsu which is always crowded, even if you don't want ramen. Or you can order takeout from the hostess...but everything is 'out of stock'. Unfortunate.

Limited selections of authentic Japanese street food located inside the Arcade building.Recently visited to try their okonomiyaki, but it seemed like their menus have changed. I ended up getting the traditional chicken karaage and gyoza, and both were very good. Karaage was extremely tender and they were certainly the best pieces I had in Boston.Unfortunately, this place seemed to be overshadowed by the popularity of the ramen place right across, but they are definitely worth a visit.

The shoyu 1910 was delicious. Broth just right, pork belly tender and juicy, and the noodles tasted fresh.

First time here - tried the karaage (Traditional fried chicken)! We were disappointed that they were doing takeout only, but the 10-15 min wait was fully worth the tender, juicy, and lightly fried to perfection chicken which we quickly devoured. Honestly one of the best karaage we've had in Boston, and the staff was helpful as well. Unfortunately, they are not selling okonomiyaki currently. $9 for 4 juicy pieces of 7 oz. chicken thigh goodness!! This place is a hidden gem within Brookline.

Great when they can fulfill the order but often end up with being told they can’t make takoyaki because the machine’s broken. Or can’t make the okonomiyaki because they run out of a certain ingredients, maybe better management is needed.

The food here is delicious. I got 1910 ramen soup and the flavors were on point. The char in the pork was perfect. Service was on point.

This is the restaurant across from Ganko, the ramen place- some of the other reviews here on yelp seem to be referencing Ganko so just wanted to make they clear! Gantetsu-Ya was recommended to me as an okonomiyaki restaurant, and I was excited to see pictures of Hiroshima style okonomiyaki as well as takoyaki. Unfortunately, upon arriving today, I learned they no longer serve okonomiyaki and don't really have plans to bring it back. Pretty disappointing, but understandable. Then I learn that though they have takoyaki listed as available on saturdays/sundays, they don't have that either! We ended up trying the Karaage and the gyoza and I must say the karaage was very very good- great chicken meat and super flavorful. It seems that Gantetsu-Ya serves mostly to make appetizers for its sister restaurant Ganko, which had a quite long line of people waiting for ramen today! All in all the Karaage was excellent and the feel of the space was authentic, but without okonomiyaki nor takoyaki it felt a bit lacking. As long as your expectations are realistic for what this place offers, then you'll be fine, and that's why I felt the need to share this review ASAP after our trip there, as we didn't see anything online about there no longer being okonomiyaki nor takoyaki.

Their gyoza are delicious, but their kara-age is out of this world!!! I have a hard time resisting the urge - no… the NEED to stop in and get some to go every time I’m in Coolidge. It’s crazy good, and their sister restaurant Ganko Ittetsu makes this the best stop for casual Japanese eats in the city.

Fantastic ramen here and at their Providence location. Highly recommend!

The best Takoyaki!Update: Take out only now. Was not prepared for this. Last time ( during COVID) they let us sit and eat at their other restaurant 6 steps away. The relationship is no longer cooperative ( guessing) because even though there were tables available and we would of bought drinks they would would not let us sit there. Takoyaki is not a good take out food. Gets mushy and cold quickly.
