Place is the best Chinese south of Boston
We got takeout last night. We have not been there in a while. We heard you were under new management so we wanted to try to see if it got better. I don't like to say bad things about a place that is probably trying to do better. But we spend $46.00 on food that was awful. The food smelled like rancid oil. And maybe the oil was dirty & it made the food taste awful I don't know. Maybe it was oil that was not changed. For that reason I will wait awhile & try again later. Maybe starting...read full review

Royal Garden is an old school Chinese restaurant with a dark ambiance that many grew up on. The food is great, especially the Royal Eggfooyoung and the orange crispy beef. They offer generous portions at fair prices and everything is made in-house. The restaurant has a nice New England Polynesian vibe, with a separate bar area. The dining area is kid-friendly with private booths. However, some recent reviews mention that the food can be bland, with only dishes like chicken teriyaki and orange chicken standing out for flavor.
While the staff has been noted for providing outstanding service, there have been concerns about the cleanliness and the tired appearance of the place. Some guests have expressed disappointment in the service, mentioning a lack of attention from waitstaff, insufficient silverware, and issues with food preparation, such as the beef teriyaki and chicken fingers not being cooked through.
Despite these criticisms, many locals still appreciate Royal Garden for its traditional atmosphere and the improvement in food quality over the years. The decor has remained largely unchanged for over 30 years, contributing to its charm. The bar area, with friendly bartenders like Herman, who brings a personal touch with gestures like singing happy birthday in Chinese, adds to the experience. It's definitely worth checking out for a traditional Chinese dining experience, especially for those who enjoy classic American Chinese food.
