I had lunch yesterday at Zinc, and it was delightful. The staff is very welcoming, which often is missing in today's world. The Pinot Grigio was super crisp, the best I've had in some time. I had a grilled gruyere sandwich with duck confit and caramelized onions. It was absolutely delicious--I'm heating up the second half for my lunch today because it was amply sized for two meals. They usually serve it with mixed greens, but I asked for bib lettuce instead, and they served me very fresh bib with a light, tasty dressing. I truly enjoyed every bite and sip of this meal. My companion had a burger, which he said was the best he's had in years--thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere at Zinc is classy but not overly so, with lots of light and a choice of dining rooms. We drove an hour to get here, and it was worth every mile. Try it!!

The food was spectacular, as was the service and ambiance, too. It's hands down my favorite restaurant in the Berkshires. I had fresh tuna, in between sashimi and cooked with a sesame crust with wakame seaweed on a bed of noodles. My husband had the shortrib dumplings with the best au jus dipping sauce I've ever tried in my life. These are two appetizers - since portions are so generous, it was enough for us. I asked about the bread that came with our order, which came with the best whipped butter - so the chef gave us a loaf to bring home.

The food was delicious. I sat at the bar. They had incredible fried oysters, and from what I could see all the food looked really good. The people were friendly, and the ambience was very attractive. I strongly recommend the restaurant Jonathan Glynn.

Both our appetizers arrived cold and our fish entree was very over cooked. So

For our anniversary, we visited Zinc for lunch, a cozy choice on this cold January day, and we loved it. Carlos, our waiter made us feel at home, and the service was superb. The Butternut Squash soup is a revelation, the Salade Nicoise was excellent--very fresh greens and perfectly cooked tuna, and the Mediterranean trout was delicious too. For desert we shared a wonderful chocolate bread pudding. Very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon. The room was not busy on a Thursday, which made us Covidophobes feel safe. The bill came to about $100, a bit pricey for lunch but worth it for this lovely experience.

We've been going to Zinc the last several years whenever we're in Lenox. It definitely is one of the better restaurants in the area so it pains me a bit to write this. It's not quite clear to us what is happening but the quality of the food preparation is slipping. While the atmosphere and the service is still good, the cooking feels like the chef has left and some aid is trying to recreate what was done before. Take two of our more recent orders (on different dates), a chicken francese and a trout meunière. Both should be served with a beurre blanc sauce, but they both came drenched in something that tasted like lemon juice with broth. Nothing creamy here, and the acidity completely overwhelmed the chicken and even more the fish. The fish also tasted like it had been frozen or spent too many days in the refrigerator... This just isn't the standard we came to expect from this restaurant. So while the prices have gone up, the quality has gone down. There are still dishes that are very good. The soups are always a treat and the Boef Bourguignon is a must-try. That's why the misses are so painful - we're afraid to order the wrong thing. Service was super nice when we complained and comp'd us a dessert - but also told us that when she relayed our comments to the chef, the reaction was: nothing. If you go, you might still have a fantastic experience. Or you might end up with a less than epic dinner. It's the luck of the draw, unfortunately. PS I thought the era of basically raw vegetables had passed for good. Not here, unfortunately. Raw beans swimming in lemon juice - oh well...
