The breakfast here is fantastic. Beautiful omelet, pastries, sausage was delicious, bacon, butter, sour dough bread, among others. The dinner, however, was not of the same standard. The house made gnocchi greasy, fish disappointing. Based on our breakfast we were expecting greatness, instead we received disappointment. The room and surroundings are beautiful and the service professional and helpful. They have a decent wine list.
Phenomenal experience!Exceptional service, and the courses were delightful. Truly a unique dining experience from start to finish. Beautiful grounds, atmosphere and more! We celebrated my beautiful wife’s birthday and the servers went above and beyond to make her feel special, on her special day. Can’t wait to return!
Food was bland. The foie gras was out of a can. The only desert choices were sorbets. The waiters wore polyester suits and their id tags were cheap and pinned crookedly. There were plastic covers on the tables. A lot of commotion and back and forth delivering the food but no flavor to anything.$600 dinner for 2; a major rip off; All smoke and mirrors. These prices deserve flavor and attention to detail .
We took the prix fixe menu. Overall we had a great experience. The cuisine is gastronomique, and compares favorably with one Michelin star restaurants. However it was a little bit too ambitious for my taste with too many flavors. Another disappointment was the micro dosage of the sides which made them too subtle to be appreciated. On the other hand, the service lacked of training and attentiveness. Although considerate, our waiters did not meet our expectations because of several faux pas. First, the cutlery were miss-positioned / misaligned all the time. Next, when bringing the rabbit, my waiter left without removing the cloche. Luckily, the other waiter noticed my embarrassment and removed it. Then, our waiters mixed still water in our glasses filled with sparkling water although we told him before to wait. Finally, the description of the dishes was too laconic. The atmosphere and the settings were great, but the cutlery was a bit cheap for this kind of place. In particular, the laguiole knife I got for the venison was of poor quality, did not have teeth and could not handle the meat next to the bone.
If you are looking for a fine dining experience look no further. What an experience for the Holidays with their beautiful decor inside and out. My food was fantastic and I’m still thinking of the arugula salad and pasta. The service was more than eggar to make sure you were enjoying yourself. We loved our night so much so we tried to work our way back before we ended our trip. This place is not to be taken for granted. Absolutely exquisite venue.
I would be more forgiving of the mediocre service and food if the staff weren’t so pretentious.
So lovely here. The food, the service, the tables, the wines, the atmosphere, all gorgeous. There is nothing bad about being here, so relaxing ad enjoyable.

The food and the setting here are simply spectacular. The service, starting and ending with the valet, makes you feel special and welcome. A destination restaurant.
Great chef with excellent variety and preparations. Service nice, not too intrusive. Setting splendid with sunset around the tables.

Anniversary dinner was an experience. Wonderful service in an unbelievable setting. For the exorbitant price, we expected great food. As it turns out, the food was interesting, nicely prepared and beautiful-looking but not what you would call anything but a tasting menu. Just as you begin to get into it, it’s gone. Truly a memorable event but not a meal.
My husband and I were looking for something rather special for a unique dining experience, something we've never had before. We certainly found what we were looking for in the Portico! We opted for the 4 course option, and the food was impressive and beyond anything I've ever had before. It was absolutely amazing and the service was attentive and refreshing. Overall, a marvelous experience, and we will definitely be going back!
Very fancy place. Very small and very expensive meals.
Each year my wife and I take turns planning our wedding anniversaries. And it is always a surprise for the one who's not planning it. This year was my wife's turn and we visited The Berkshire mountain area of western Massachusetts, specifically Stockbridge. The night of our anniversary we dressed for dinner and headed out to Lenox Massachusetts, the next town over from Stockbridge. Aided by her trusty GPS my wife directed me to the entrance to the restaurant which I mistakenly mistook for a private home's driveway initially. Urged on by my wife despite my misgivings we followed the driveway until we came face to face with a magnificent Italian villa completely lit up complete with the circular driveway and huge fountain in the middle. The Wheatleigh Hotel, home of Portico by Jeffrey Thompson restaurant. This is a 5 star, 5 diamond awarding winning hotel and restaurant. Reservations are a must as the restaurant has only 8-9 tables enclosed in a glass and stone portico in the back of the villa. The menu consists of a choice of either a six course tasting menu selected by the chef for $158 per person or three or four course price fix menus for approximately $130 or $115 per person. Their wine list is a Wine Spectator 2017 Award winner, enough said about that. And they, of course, have a trained Sommelier on staff at all times to assist one. As it was our anniversary, we felt we had no choice and ordered the tasting menu. From beginning to end, a fabulous gastro journey covering beef, shellfish, sushi, fish, cheese, and a special dessert featuring tomato sorbet. I could go on for a while to list all the special little tastings we had but suffice it to say, they were all delicious and expertly prepared and presented. The chef definitely had fun. The staff was amazing as well. Professional, efficient, knowledgeable about each dish presented, and very unobtrusive yet attentive. Now, this level of service, food, drink, and atmosphere comes at a very high price. Our meal, complete with the optional cheese service, a bottle of champagne and one half bottle of merlot came to around $650.00. That being said, if one can afford it, you will never forget a meal at The Portico. One more thing, young children are not welcome.
Dined in the Portico last night with my family. My daughter is dairy free and the staff accommodated flawlessly. Each course was a piece of art. Flavors where exceptional. We all had the three course meals. We will be returning in the near future.
