Indifferent maintenance including a broken shower door, dirty carpet, weeds growing out of the roof gutters. Close to Tanglewood if that's where you are heading.
Don’t be temped by the Convenience of location of these hotels. My family and I recently stayed at the Whitlock for a tanglewood show. Our room smelled so strongly of cigarettes and due to all rooms being full we were offered febreze as a resolution. The rooms were small and simple, no mini fridge etc yet the cleanliness was of a cheap motel. The edges off all the furniture were not cleaned and covered in dust.Exposed rust in the shower and toothpaste water drips along the wall and bathroom vanity . My five year old was playing on the bed and called me over to see the base board lip behind the bed was covered in dust and dead bugs. Also the the walls are very thing due to the nature of an old building none of us slept the first night due to a loud wedding party . We spent over 1000 for a two night stay . Save your money and find somewhere else. I’ve emailed management with no response back .
Best thing about this place is the location, which is dead center in Lenox. But it needs a lot of work, design-wise and just in terms of accommodations and amenities. Next time will probably just stay at a more standard commercial hotel. We stayed at the Whitlock which is sort of ramshackle and worn down — rather than acquiring a “collection” of three properties I think the ownership should have sunk their money into one and gutted it to bring it up to modern standards. As is, the rooms are threadbare and feel sort of flop-house-adjacent: no closets, no surfaces or drawers in the bathroom, the soap and lotion dispensers were stained with rust from the metal holders they were in, loud vibrating air conditioning/heating unit, the door to our room didn’t fully close, no soundproofing so you can hear everything happening through the thin walls and floors, etc. The aesthetic sensibility of the place is, “antique store that somehow stays in business despite selling only one item a month.” They nominally offer a free continental breakfast which, you know, whatever, I don’t stay places to the breakfast, but they only offer it from 7-9 AM. Who the hell is getting up that early for a continental breakfast when they’re on vacation? (And we could smell people making toast and coffee in our room). Push it to 10 AM at least, gang. If you’re desperate to stay right in downtown Lenox, this place is fine. If you want a nice hotel experience, I’d look further afield to the Porches in North Adams or Elements in “north” Lenox.
Depressing and expensive room, meh breakfast, overpriced, but good location
First time to Lenox, MA and Tanglewood. Came up for James Taylor. Location is amazing. A nice 1.5 walk to the venue, avoiding traffic...and getting fresh air! And so, the great positive is location...walking distance to Tanglewood AND in the middle of Lenox. I would say the overriding downside is the value for the price. I understand that supply/demand is in play due to limited rooms in Lenox and huge spikes in demand. That said, if a premium is being charged, the guest experience should stretch to be premium in whatever ways possible. First, THIS breakfast for a B&B? Not acceptable. Should be able to prepare a proper breakfast OR bring in high-quality baked goods for Continental. Second, we have experience only with one room, but it left much to be desired. Zero personality due to no decor...and just big enough to fit a Queen size bed and two small night tables.The staff is young, I get it. But, they should be educated in the key local features/goings-on. Every question I asked...they Googled to find an answer. One final observation: being on the back side of the hotel, we were awaken Saturday morning 6:45a to the sanitation truck backing (yes, with high-pitched warning beep) into the driveway to perform its rubbish removal process.
So, the location is great. The curb appeal and hotel sign are promising. The outdoor patio is handy. But for this price, the breakfast should be of much higher quality and the room, even if on the small side, should be nicely appointed. Or, lower the price to find the fair balance.
Quaint, quiet lodging. Great location within walking distance. No staff on site. No service on site (at least during our stay- middle of the week). Continental breakfast is at a nearby sister property. Coffee, tea and lots of snacks and fruit are in the sitting room at this location. Beautiful areas to sit outside. Peaceful. There are 3 floors and no elevator so choose your room wisely. Rooms are nice- very comfortable beds. Bathroom was adequate. Limited outlets and counters space.
Staff at the sister location were very helpful and friendly.
The heat in our room didn't work. The first night they said they hadn't turned the heat back on when the weather changed. Sent me to a hall thermometer. The halls were warm but not our room. The second day they said that the heat in our room was the mini split and they would send someone to be sure it was set correctly.
They said it was checked while we were out for the day but it was so cold we wore sweats and socks to bed. They ultimately offered to move us to another of their hotels but it was late and we were unpacked and only there for another night The bar area was closed. They offered a coffee station but no cream. No where to sit outside of the room other than a cold porch. The room was neat but not clean (cobwebs in bathroom...hearing vent cover missing...spiders in shower... Hairballs behind the toilet) Extremely disappointed. It was our 38th wedding anniversary thankfully after all these years we had fun in spite of not being happy with our accommodations.
A+++ across the board.

A+++ across the board.
I recently stayed at The Whitlock in Lenox, Massachusetts. Overall, my experience was okay, but there were a few notable issues that impacted my stay.
The inn itself is charming and well-located, making it easy to explore the surrounding area.
However, the Continental breakfast was extremely lackluster. They ran out of plates, silverware, and coffee, which was quite disappointing. It seemed like they were unprepared for the number of guests, and this oversight significantly detracted from the overall experience.
The room was also quite cold even though I shut the AC completely off it seems to keep putting out cold air.

You're on your own.
Beautiful old property. Sparse rooms. Rugs need cleaning.
No water or cups in the room
Service is non existing after hours. Staff leaves at night. Can't get extra towels or a plastic cup. Coffee room was totally depleted.
Front doors of hotel are left open for anyone to enter. Met very drunk woman in entrance asking me if I could get her into the bar at midnight.
I know this unmanaged hotel idea is the new thing but .....
$400/night/room x 32 = $12800/night. $20hr for 8 hours = $160
Really? Hire a night watchperson. Cheaper than the liability, I would think. Better than leaving your guests on their own
Rooms: Not Delux
Safety: No night watchperson
Walkability: Right in town

My husband and I stayed for one weekend night recently, and were very happy with our room, the service and atmosphere! I loved the ambiance of each room, the fire pit outside and the coziness of our room. Checking in at the Constance was a breeze, and picking up our key on arrival was fast and easy. I appreciated the text updates that included reminders about where to check in and driving directions. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance of everything, and the bar offered every type of drink one could want. I only wish we would have had more time and could have stayed longer!

First and foremost, the location is perfection. You are in the heart of Lenox within an easy walk of any restaurant, shop, or bar you'd want to get to. It truly is the ideal spot. However –I have never been to any hotel in the US or in Europe that made it as difficult as this one does to get information or communicate with staff. The only way to "talk" to anyone is via text, so if you don't text, or have a phone that doesn't text, or are someone who prefers to actually talk to someone, you are out of luck. This came to fruition for us when it was discovered that the directions for how to use the TV (available only by QR code) were out of date and the wall units were set only to blow hot despite the fact that some people may want to sleep with air circulating that didn't involve keeping a window open on a 45 degree night. As regards the QR code, the hotel seems to favor technology over practicality, so if you did want to get information the only way to do so is on your phone. I suppose this wouldn't be terrible if the information were current, but there were no directions provided for the wall air unit so the room experience was a bit frustrating.The room itself was fairly well appointed; not flashy but with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was small (Room #31) with no real space provided to put one's toiletries. I would also say that if you are smaller of stature (I am 5'1"), getting into the bathtub/shower can be a challenge, particularly without any sort of handrail to hold onto. The shower gel / shampoo / conditioner were also placed relatively high – for a much taller person – so getting to them wasn't easy, though the products themselves were nice.Finally, if stairs are difficult for you, do not stay on the 2nd or 3rd floors, available only via stairs.Would I stay here again? Really, I don't know. The difficulty of communication made me feel as if the hotel wishes to keep its guests at arm's length without providing any real customer service. It's unfortunate.

Stayed here for one night. The rooms are basic but clean and the location is great. Kudos to Jeff who helped us with an earlier than expected checkout - great service!
