It's certainly not my first visit to Black Cow, but regardless of how many times I visit, they never cease to amaze me! The atmosphere is always fun and upbeat, their wait staff is engaging and knowledgeable about the menu.. Emily served us on this visit and could not have been more efficient or kind! Our appetizers were Crispy Calamari and California Roll, both were fresh and delicious! Our main meals were awesome too. The 8 oz Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection with sour cream mashed potato, and grilled asparagus as sides! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Applejack Bone in Pork chop, with Yukon smashed potato and butternut squash! Needless to say their cocktails and wine list render lots of delicious choices! I highly suggest you check them out, you won't be disappointed!
There was a table of 15-20 women sat next to us on the second floor of the establishment. I understand there are larger reservations you can accommodate but it was incredibly loud and hard to have a conversation with my fiance. We were there to celebrate our engagement - and jt was anything but private or romantic. Super loud and overwhelming group to be sat next to. Our waitress did a great job handling both us and the large group, she was excellent with the conditions she was assigned!
A wonderful impromptu lunch at Black Cow. We were greeted and seated in a nice booth by the window. Our cocktails were perfectly prepared. We started with the muscles in coconut broth. Very tasty. My wife had the lobster stuffed raviolis with nicely prepared shrimp. My salmon dish was was very enjoyable indeed. Our waitress Linda provided us with excellent and friendly service, making us feel very welcome. Thank you Linda! Next time we're in Newburyport, we'll be back to Black Cow.
Food was ok, but expensive. Had the shrimp appetizer, batter was a bit heavy. Had the fish poboy, was pretty messy, too much mayo, coleslaw and fish was burning hot from being fried. Clam chowder was good. Nice beer selection on draft.
We came here on Sunday after the Harbor side Half Marathon. We fortunately remembered to make a reservation as the area was quite busy. We've been to the Black Cow before and always enjoyed it, and this time was no exception. We were seated at a high-top as requested, and our server was SO nice. The service was a little slow but we were in no hurry and it was nice to just visit while waiting. I ordered the Old Fashioned burger with onion jam and it was delicious! My son ordered the steak tips and said they were exceptional. The portions were very generous. My Maple Old Fashioned was one of the best I've ever had; my son is picky about his Guiness pour, and the bartender did a great job. A wonderful way to finish off the half-marathon!
The ambience and service were spectacular. The calamari, chocolate torte and coffee were great. The rest of the meal was good but not amazing - somehow low on seasoning or perhaps the chef rushed through some of our dishes. Overall we had a good time.
The Black Cow never disappoints - great location in Newburyport, beautiful architecture - and the food the drinks the service is the best. Whether going as a couple or with a group of friends, always an awesome time.
Six of us had lunch here. Food was delicious! Our waitress was great! It was easy to talk and hear each other. Will definitely go back.

great service, large servings, and huge selection of wine and beer. Not rushed and enjoyed our time.
Great atmosphere and location. The service is always friendly and attentive. Sushi is an A+! I’ve tried almost all appetizers and they were very tasty. After eating, take a nice stroll on the Waterfront.

Service was a little slow. Sat at the bar and waited for sometime before someone took our food order. However staff was pleasant and food was very good.
