We ate at the Black Cow on 5/23/26, our food was so horrible we left it on our plate(s). We paid the bill in full and tipped the waitress because we understand it’s not her fault. The food is horrible. The appetizer the main dish. All terrible. Won’t be back.

Came here for dinner with my loved one and this has become a new favorite spot of mine in Newburyport. To start off the bread and oil were just so delicious we had to get it three times. The drinks were also amazing. I got the sushi while my partner got the steak, both were just made to perfection! The service here was also just as good, everyone was just so attentive. I will definitely be back and absolutely would suggest this restaurant if you're looking for good vibes in the Newburyport area

Live in the area and used to go here 2-3 times a month. I haven’t been to the black cow in quite some time and my recent trip reminded me why. The place has been slowly going downhill. What used to be amazing food and service is now just average at best. Not only did it take me 30 minutes just to order a beer on a not busy night, I ordered a steak medium and came out medium well. Normally I’m not one to complain but when it’s a $60 steak I’m going to say something. I kindly asked the waitress what she thought and she said she’d ask the chef, we are good about that here. Then she came back put the same overcooked steak in front of me told me the chef said it’s fine and it must be the lighting.
It was definitely over cook (I have photos) Still paid , no one cared, no manager concerned to come over and ask

Derrick, the GM of this charming and lively restaurant, gave us a tour and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. The ambiance, character, service and food are wonderful, memorable and very highly recommended. What a gem!! I wish I could bring this charming town and restaurant back with me to my home state!! Vey highly recommend😊.

You can have mediocre food and stellar service or stellar food and mediocre service, but bad service and pedestrian food doesn’t cut it. The waitress was wildly rude and mouthed off after we asked the host stand if we could grab our bill because her entire section was waiting 20 minutes to be cashed out and she was nowhere to be found. It was the end of the night so really no reason for it or for an attitude. Managers response was also incredibly underwhelming. Won’t be back.
