We dropped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised!!! French onion soup was to die for and $7 a cup!! Was so good
So this has gotta be one of the best new places in Salem. It’s cheesy, it’s high quality, it’s perfect. The only way you can go wrong with this place is if you are looking for a light snack, because you are going to get a food coma from all their great stuff. Come hungry and leave so, so satisfied.
Anti-worker establishment, avoid at all costs. employees received an email saying that they are cutting wages down to $7/hr because "tips were higher than expected"
if you can't afford to pay your employees minimum wage you cannot afford to run a business.
on top of that the food is just okay, the prices are high and the portions aren't large enough but the food is serviceable.

Au Gratin is a darling little treasure and hidden gem of a restaurant in Salem. The space is small and charming, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The service is friendly, helpful, and great, with food served quickly. The food is great, top notch, so good, and excellent, worth the price and never a long wait. Favorites include heavenly French onion soup, the best Butternut Squash soup, tasty paninis like the chicken panini sandwich, and short rib au jus. You can’t go wrong with melty cheese, seen in dishes like mac and cheese. The crispy fries, truffle fries, and lobster options are also highly recommended. It seems to be a locals spot and is very busy, but is absolutely worth the visit.
