We got the make-your-own tacos & tried the Chorizo, seared mushrooms & Tofu. All good, but the mushrooms had the most flavors. We had them with Chimichuri sauce. Sooo good!!

Barrio offers build-your-own tacos where customers check off what to put inside! Just don’t miss the line that says there’s an upcharge if you add more than one item from each section. Menu is well labeled for vegan friendly items. I got the Freakin’ Vegan taco special which was flavorful and filling.

Our server Nelson gave us the perfect drink and appetizer suggestions for lunch. Tacos were incredible, margaritas were delicious, and the service was fast, friendly, and helpful. This is our third time trying Barrio on our visit to Salem, and they haven’t disappointed yet!

Hot Mezcal drink was spicy and delicious. El jefe taco was delicious. Server Nelson was great and had excellent recommendations for what to do in town after.

I’ve never had a bad experience. Sometimes the music is too loud. But that’s okay.

Great food, though tacos are a lil wet when you order delivery.
reasonable value, 2 tacos is usually enough.
Have treated me well when things were wrong. I stop by about once a month.

Ordered online and didn’t get my full order. Emailed customer service address and never heard back. Total waste of money. I’ll never go back again. We used to go to the Haverhill location all the time and after my experience at the Salem location we won’t be taking our business to any Barrio again.

I would avoid this location of Barrio. I’ve been to others but this one is NOT good. We went here for a fun night of tacos since we love Mexican. The chips and salsa were so salty, we couldn’t eat many but the worst was that the food was burnt, taste burnt but ironically cold in terms of temperature. I got tofu and it was ROCK hard, beans and rice were congealed. When we told the manager, he proceeded to touch the food (weird, but ok) it was visibly burnt as in dark brown taco shells and he confirmed the food shouldn’t look like that. We didn’t eat but yet paid for food….literally it all went back. The manager comped part of our meal but we literally ate nothing. I wasn’t going to make a big deal but if I was the manager, I wouldn’t have let our group pay. I still planned to tip our waitress bc it wasn’t her fault.

To recap, come here for the fun vibes, but not the food. We even disliked our drinks which were poorly made (the jalapeño tequila tasted weird). The artwork on the building is really cool, though so there’s a plus.

UPDATE: management replied to this review but when I emailed them, they didn’t reply. Even when I contacted general customer service, no response. Definitely won’t be returning.

Rice bowl is the way to go. The cilantro rice is to die for and Barbados beef was yummy!
Price for 3 only $35!! (with no drinks)

My friend came for lunch we both got blackened cod tacos on white corn tortillas. The fish was nasty, salsa on the taco wasn't good, tomatoes old. They didn't bother to even cook or heat up the tortillas. Very dry right out of the bag. Service was good at. Blamed the food on the new cook and that he is training. Won't b going back

The only thing me and my wife liked about this place is the design and look on the inside. Other than that servers inattentive, food was probably the worst tacos I have ever had in my life… not trying to bash. Just letting people know. It felt like me and my wife needed to drink 2 gallons of water to offset the sodium intake.

Barrio Tacos in Salem, MA, is a fantastic taco bar in a festive environment with so many options that it may be a bit overwhelming - in a good way - to some. These people will make a taco out of anything and everything. If you want a kitchen sink taco they will make it! (just kidding) The El Jefe selections change regularly (Caribbean Peach Tacos!) but many folks will just check off the boxes on a long list to customize their own out of the endless options. They fancy themselves a tequila and whiskey bar as well with a nicely stocked variety of both. The margaritas are beyond excellent. So there you have it- great tacos and margaritas. Highly recommended!
