We stopped in on our way out of town and were pleasantly surprised! Great little shop with great people and amazing energy!

Spells Coffee Shop and Market is absolute magic! From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a cozy, enchanting atmosphere filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked treats that taste like something out of a fairy tale. The staff are incredibly kind, intuitive, and genuinely care about your experience—it's like they know exactly what you need, whether it's a perfect cappuccino, a nourishing herbal tea, or just a warm smile.

The market side is a treasure trove of locally made goods, magical gifts, and wellness products you won’t find anywhere else. It’s clear that every item is chosen with intention and care.

Whether you're here to read, write, catch up with a friend, or just soak in the peaceful vibe, Spells is the kind of place that instantly feels like home. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem—it’s more than a coffee shop, it’s a whole experience. One visit and you’ll be under its spell too!

i’ve been coming here for a few years and have given this place many more chances than i should have. it actually used to be pretty good, mainly because of a very kind and helpful barista who was there almost every day and always had my order ready for me, made perfectly. i stopped seeing her there about a year ago and things went downhill very fast so i guess she was the glue holding this place together. i’m a barista in salem so i completely understand how stressful and demanding it can be, but the amount of times i have waited a ridiculously long time for a terrible drink, and i always place an online order and give them at least 10-15 mins before i go pick it up. the quality varies so much day to day, they are always understaffed and the baristas always seem stressed and overwhelmed. they cycle through employees very fast which is usually a red flag that working conditions are not great. there have been some great baristas and i will say there is a guy who started working there recently (beard and beanie) who is very nice and makes great drinks. my last straw was today when i went in to pick up my usual online order and the new barista was incredibly rude to me and told me they didn’t have any orders under my name, i showed him the receipt and he just looked at me like i was stupid until another employee yelled to him across the cafe to make me a small cappuccino, which turned out to be disgusting and boiling hot. i think it’s insane to treat any customer this way, let alone someone who comes in multiple times a week and tips every single time. it’s my own fault for giving this business so many chances, but it is such a cute space and concept and i like to support small businesses. honestly, save yourself the time and money and go to the dunks down the street.

also, i’ve seen the owners rude replies to other negative reviews and which i think is embarrassing and extremely unprofessional. maybe take constructive criticism to help improve your business that is clearly lacking in many ways.

Luke warm breakfast burrito with Meat that you didn’t ask for. I paid for a 16 oz coffee and it came in a 12 oz cup. Not worth $20.

Worst iced latte I’ve ever had. Still warm, barely any ice, no syrup flavor either for $8

Walked by and stopped in at spells. Enjoyed a breakfast burrito and a cappuccino. Everything was very good. Very nice local shop with a great atmosphere. Staff was friendly and professional.

Twice now I’ve had a bizarre experience. This time I ordered the BLT from the menu, which read “bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo served with chips and pickle spear”.

Took about ten minutes despite there being three girls behind the counter and no one else in the place.

When I got the sandwich there was no mayo, chips, or pickle, and the entire sandwich had one strip of bacon. I approached the girl who made it and she said they ran out of bacon. I then asked for my sides and mayo and was handed a cup filled with globs of mayo and no utensils.

Just a weird place. And judging by the owners choice to respond to people with insult poetry and condescending remarks instead of listening to feedback and improving, I doubt it’ll get better.

Definitely my go to latte place. I ordered a muffin and she asked if I wanted it microwaved with butter on it. That hasn't happened before . It was great

This place is so cool! a true homey local coffee shop. I don't drink caffeine, but they have tons of options for warm and cold drinks, like a Golden Elixir, tons of boosters like MTC oil, and flavorful mocktails. I have had breakfast sandwiches, which were all expertly made with fresh ingredients by various staff members. They sell artwork and jewelry buy local artisans, doggie friendly, too! I recommend Spells for its warm hospitality, and variety of drink and food options at a quality for the price points.

Small cute little shop. The gentleman working was very kind and soft spoken. The service was just slow. I got a muffin and coffee and I was inside for 15 minutes, AND I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THERE!

The muffin was tasty and the coffee was solid. So I can’t give it less, but I just wish it was faster. I don’t know why I was waiting.

Went in and stood around for 10 min without being acknowledged for the last time today.

Edit to add:
To the Owner of Spells
You may think you are cute with your responses to negative reviews, but as a former customer, and business owner myself, I assure you, you are condescending and disrespectful.
Not sure who you think I am, but it is not me you have footage of waiting for seconds. In fact, a long wait has happened so many times in the past, I timed the last one on my phone and left right at 10 min. No one acknowledged me, no one even came into view of the ordering window, they were in the back.
Calling customers liars in rhymes is childish and goes to show another reason you simply do not have what it takes to run a successful business.

Jackie

Definitely agree with the recent reviews about customer service.

Such a lovely surprise to bite into this muffin to find the whole bottom full of mold. My husband surprised me with a pick up order from here on our journey home and this is the real surprise we got!! He was so thoughtful and you guys ruined it. I mean how long does a muffin need to sit out for it to get this moldy!!?? This is definitely more than a week old I’m so disgusted. Just because you have a cutesy name and tourist location doesn’t mean you can feed people old crap especially for the price. How cheap and lazy do you have to be to keep baked goods this long?? I’ve never seen anything like this before in an establishment. Shame on you.
