The food is so good. We go everytime we visit its a must do. Make sure to make reservations because it does fill up fast. The hotel is beautiful and we always make sure to go into the library. Something about it is calming.

My husband and I went here for breakfast. They had live music which was very nice! It was very busy and festive for the holidays. I got the Florentine Benedict which was delicious and the oatmeal which was perfect. My husband built his own omelette - you can add on many choices of vegetables, cheeses and meats. Definitely a happening place on Sunday morning. Staff and atmosphere were great!
We love returning to eat at The Tavern in the Hawthorne. The atmosphere is warm and inviting especially on a cold winter afternoon. The Hawthorne retains the old fashioned feel of a small city hotel. The food is always very good, if not gourmet fare. The prices have definitely risen over the last few years but that is the case everywhere these days. When we were there yesterday afternoon the lobby was filled with poinsettias and a wedding reception was being held in the adjacent event space. It all felt very festive. We ate in the tavern and had a table next to the fireplace. A fire was crackling away, adding to the holiday feel. Our server was excellent and very attentive. I can heartily recommend The Hawthorne Hotel!
Some items were a bit pricey, but overall the food and service was very good, making up for it. This would be a great place for a small group special occasion.
Had a great time. The menu is large and accommodating both a full meal and snacks. The nachos and fries were delicious and the service was excellent. It’s a great option for one looking for an old school tavern with lots of history.

I so enjoyed my two meals there this week. Good not great food but wonderful service and ambiance. That said,I think that the prices have become rather high. $38 for meatloaf in a tavern? Please bring back the penne pasta with smoked mozzarella. BTW - I have been dining there since 1980.

This restaurant was a recommendation from our tour guide, and it was so so good. The steak tips and sweet potato puree were absolutely fantastic and I would eat them again in a heartbeat! Katie was our waitress, and she was perfect!

Everything we had to eat was excellent. I am a vegetarian, and my friend is vegan. There were food options that accommodated these food preferences. The butternut squash soup was excellent. I had the grilled apple and brie sandwich delicious. My vegan friend had a curry rice bowl with roasted vegetables excellent. I had the non-alcoholic cider drink-loved it. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating to our needs. Wonderful experience. The next time I am in Salem, I will return

Awesome food and fast service. I liked the pumpkin humus waaaaay more than I thought I would. The meatloaf just falls apart in your mouth.
The grilled cheese had a nice crunch but the bread was a little hard and the cheese wasn't stringy. Espresso martini had such a soft, smooth texture. We all enjoyed our chowder and seasonal soup. Coconut curry was also amazing. All pictured here. Overall, highly recommended

I'm a Salem local and I typically avoid going out to eat like the plague in October, but the Tavern was a fantastic experience. Shout out to our waitress, Taylor, who was very attentive and made our night a positive experience.
The food is a bit expensive but frankly great, unfortunately everything is expensive in October.

The Tavern at The Hawthorne was a classic place to have dinner. The haunted hotel is decorated for the spooky season, the servers are great, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, and the food tasted awesome. I got the Seafood Stew, and my gluten-free, vegan wife got the Coconut-Curry Bowl with Tofu. We will return.

Stopped by for lunch today in the Halloween chaos month- bless the servers and team at Hawthorne for the crazy amount of people- they were working hard! The food for lunch was delicious. The brie grilled cheese with apples and chicken and the onion rings with the maple bourbon drinks were amazing. Great service, warm and cozy New England vibes!

Food was very good although we only got appetizers. The bartender had a heavy hand and the service is good. Keep in mind if you come here October be patient, it's very busy. The dining room/bar is very small, but that adds to the appeal. Come and enjoy.
