I’m giving three stars for now until our reservation on February 14th. Whoever I spoke to on the phone just now, was clearly crabby and rude. I called on Sunday and left a voicemail to make a reservation, and yes I understand they’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays. But yesterday (Tuesday) went by and I never received a call back, which is what they say will happen on the voicemail. I had to call them myself today (Wednesday) in order to get an answer. The guy on the phone said there was only 5pm and 9pm available for that day now, and when I said I had left a voicemail a few days ago and no one called me back, he seemed irritated… my point was that people could have reserved reservations for in between 6 and 8:30pm on February 14th yesterday while they still hadn’t called me back. I took the 5pm and said thank you when he confirmed the reservation to me, and he just said “okay bye” and didn’t even say “you’re welcome”. We will go to the reservation on Valentines Day but I would love to see a better attitude from the staff that night.

La Compania is one of those rare places where you can feel how much the owner truly cares. David’s attention to quality and the overall customer experience really sets this restaurant apart. From the moment you walk in, everything feels thoughtful — from the service to the pacing of the meal to the care put into each dish.

The food is excellent, clearly made with high-quality ingredients and real pride, but what keeps us coming back is the experience. You’re not rushed, you’re genuinely welcomed, and you leave feeling like your night mattered. If you’re looking for an Italian restaurant that values both incredible food and how guests are treated, La Compania is a standout. Highly recommend.

Proud 3rd gen American Napolitano here. I took a girl on a date here, it didn’t work out but the food was incredible and she didn’t like it, so I’m glad it didn’t work out. She turned out to be insane, but not the good type of insane like my nonna hitting me with a spoon covered in pomodoro sals kinda insane- more like “I put pineapple on pizza” insane. She wasn’t Italian. The food was incredible- I hope this review makes you laugh or something.

In all seriousness, great service and cute outdoor dining. I got carbonara for an entree, and even after a year, I might just say that it was probably the best carbonara I’ve had out to eat. They used guanciale, no cream or peas like those fake Italian restaurants use. No prosciutto or pancetta, fresh and delicious guanciale. I realize, of course, it’s a Roman dish, but they still made it well- plus the dish itself originated from America, but like the good ol’ city of Rome, they bettered it, and I am proud to say that they aced it, if not, perfected it. My ancestors would be proud- if I lived in the area, I’d take my nonna here. She’s 89, doesn’t leave east Boston all too much, but I know she would love the food and service here, as it’s authentic to the region of Italy she was born in.

There is nothing in this restaurant reminds me of Naples except the attitude of the hostess and server

I was shocked by how mediocre the food was. Worst high end meal I've ever had. The the menu was not what was listed online the dishes I was interested in were not available. the quality of the food was not good. Even the bread and olive oil were low quality. The pasta was not homemade it was out of a box, the pizza was heavy and bland the glass of wine was tiny, the risotto was heavy and bland, wasn't too hungry so didn't order a meat course, but anyway I would recommend you avoid this place.

the food was heavy and mediocre, the bread was awful, as was the tasteless olive oil the risotto heavy and bland, the decor boring, it didn't have the menu items that I found online, the pasta was store-bought not handmade, the pizza was heavy and bland, the glass of wine was tiny, the dessert came with mediocre ice cream, worst high end meal have ever had. I heard it had good reviews but those must have been from years ago.

Extremely disappointing experience. I truly don’t understand the 5-star reviews — they feel completely misleading.
This was my first (and definitely last) visit. I started with the scallop appetizer, which was inedible due to large pieces of sand in every bite. Clearly not cleaned or prepared properly. I then ordered the Branzino, which was served cold. When I sent it back, the waiter casually offered to reheat it — unacceptable for a dish like that.
Service was lackluster and borderline dismissive. I mentioned a goat milk allergy, and the waiter looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. In today’s dining environment, that level of ignorance around food allergies is inexcusable.
As for the ambiance — the interior feels more like a run-down nursing home than a restaurant. Dingy, dated, and uncomfortable.
Overall, this place was a complete letdown. Bad food, indifferent service, and an unpleasant atmosphere. Never again.

The food is superb! I visited the place several times and tried most of their appetizers, a duck dish and branzini dish. All was delicious.

Visited La Compania and overall had a good experience. The atmosphere was pleasant and cozy, with a unique interior that gave the place its own character.
I tried the duck — it was tasty and flavorful, though a bit too salty for my liking. The dessert, on the other hand, felt homemade, like it was made just for us — a lovely touch that really stood out.
The only downside was the service. Our waitress didn’t seem very engaged, and we had to wait quite a while to get her attention. Hopefully, that was just a one-off situation.
All in all, I’d recommend this place, especially for the ambiance and food — just wish the service had matched the rest of the experience.
