Such a great atmosphere and INCREDIBLE food! You're going to love it, very authentic food compatible to what you would find around Penang/ Georgetown.

First time trying the restaurant and may I say WOW! Amazing place to eat/drink!! Not only was the food tender/hot/delicious tasting, the drinks were great and the atmosphere of the place was a solid 10/10! The gentleman that runs the place is super fun and nice!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone, please visit Penang in Waltham!! You won’t regret it!!!

The dry curry with squid was tasting just like what I recall from my childhood when I visit Penang! Shall be back to try another dishes.

I brought 20 people for lunch with 5mins heads up and they accommodated immediately. Contrary to our expectations, the food came out fast and everyone was happy.
Huge menu. Great service. Will be back.

Experience from take out orders over 2 occasions.
First time - Nasi lemak’s sambal was watery with ikan bilis soaking in the watery sambal.
Second time - Chow Keuh Teow came with probably 3 shrimps, 6 SQUID HEADS with beaks, no squid body and some scrambled eggs.
Flavor is far away from authentic based on the two dishes I had for take out.
Only good thing is the large serving size, but for the pricing, I would prefer better flavor than the serving size.

Updated with picture of another order with “squid”, it was still only squid heads with beak.

Meh. Maybe we picked the wrong items and malay curries are better. But this was a disappointment - somehow they made pad Thai, dumplings, and spring rolls bland. We did ask for minimal heat, but I've had plenty of great pad Thai that was chock full of flavor without being spicy. Service was lightning fast... Maybe a bit more time would improve the food.

Very good Malaysian food, especially for the area. My Singaporean wife gives it an 8/10 for authenticity, but bear in mind that she is comparing it to Singapore so any differences to what she was expecting could be simply due to the difference between Singapore and Penang cooking. The Chicken Rice and Nasi Lemak were both excellent.

Food was really good and very authentic, so many Malaysian dishes on the menu I’ve never even heard of. They still have a few things to tweak to stand above an average asian hole in the wall kind of joint.

We lived in Malaysia and the food here just brings us right back to the hawker stalls and amazing tastes! The roti cenai was sooo good, if you have never tried this you need to. It’s addictive. Beef rendang was also great. The chow kuey teow was just right with nice smoky flavor, just like in glutton alley outside KL where they cook it over flames as long as an afterburner. And our server, who was from Penang, was awesome, made us feel so welcome and even gave us extra roti to finish up the curry. One of our go-to places!

I had a really nice time with my family here. We got lots of different dishes including some barbecue skewers, Malaysian pancakes, calamari, beef, curry chicken, and pork belly. All the dishes tasted very authentic, and they really made me feel like I was in a different place. I think it’s beautiful when food can do that. Overall I had plenty to eat and the price was reasonable. The service was also amazing and the waitresses were very kind! I highly recommend.

The food was incredibly disappointing—probably the worst I’ve ever had. We ordered mostly chicken dishes along with a spicy beef dish, but none of the chicken had any flavor. It felt like they simply poured sauce over bland, boiled chicken (and the beef). Every dish seemed to use the same tasteless boiled chicken. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Authentic Malaysian Gem in Metro Boston!

Penang in Waltham is a true hidden gem, offering an incredibly authentic Malaysian dining experience. We visited for a Sunday brunch with our family, including our children, and were thoroughly impressed.

The variety on the menu is extensive, catering to different tastes. We ordered the Hainanese chicken with rice, Prawn Mee, Durian shake, homemade roti canai, and fish fillet soup with rice noodles in a milk broth. Every dish was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. The Prawn Mee was particularly authentic, and the Durian shake was a rare find in Boston—fresh and absolutely delicious. The fish fillet soup with its milk broth was super special and something we hadn’t experienced before.

The food arrives piping hot, and you can hear the sounds of the kitchen in action, adding to the authenticity. It genuinely felt like we were dining in Malaysia.

The restaurant is spacious, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere. The owner, Chye, is incredibly kind and hospitable, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Highly recommend Penang for anyone craving genuine Malaysian cuisine. We’ll definitely be back!
