I hope it was just an off day because I wanted to like this place and decided to try it based on all the good reviews, but now I almost have a hard time believing they were written by people who like food.

Went around brunch time on a Sunday and ordered the bison melt, which was possibly the driest, blandest, most overcooked burger patty I have ever been served. Bison already tends to be dry, so I would expect a specialty place like this to know how to cook it. The bannock was also dry and sauces non-existent. The fries would have been good if they had actual ketchup instead of the bland pasta sauce that comes with it. I am begging all restaurants to please stop trying to make your own ketchup!

Partners dish was equally bad, the hash was a soggy mess with runny egg whites and a “Moroccan” bbq sauce that was more like a runny lavender(!?) flavoured jam.

The server was way too familiar for my taste, chairs were very uncomfortable. I really do hope this was just a random bad day for the kitchen, but the food was so disappointing I probably won’t be giving them another chance.

1 star for French fry potential.

The bistro has a menu that is clearly created with love for food and great knowledge of the Metis culture. The owner is a creative genius when it comes time to some of the unique combinations he has created to put on the menu. What I appeared most about the bistro experience, is the care that goes into sourcing every ingredient made to cook the quality food they offer. Your meals are not throwing together with margarine, or low quality butter. Give me are not purchased from superstore. The owners have taken time to locally source everything they can. From flour to fish, to bison and so on. This bistro is very evidently built and ran with the love and pride they take in their Metis roots. Apart from the quality and taste of the food and the owner go to make sure the guests have a quality experience, they give back to our youth. The owners took a chance and hired my 14 year old son to joint their team. Being a small business and taking a risk on hiring somebody so young was really something special. When my son was wanting to get a part-time job, we knew how challenging it would be for him being 14, and to enter the workforce. Most people wouldn’t want to give someone that young a chance. Especially with the role he was hired for. If he was the type of young man that didn’t show up to work, or didn’t keep his commitments, it would cause a lot of stress on the restaurant as a whole. And the fact that Dean and his wife took a chance and believed in my son… The bistro, and the owners will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s one thing to provide quality food, and to provide a great restaurant experience, but it’s another thing to be a good person behind the scenes. My son has learned so much not only about food, cooking and what it is to be an employee, but Dean has taught my son so much about our Metis culture, our roots our food and our traditions. everyone child check out APTN to see some of the amazing work Dean and his crew at the bistro did with our youth this past summer. If you go to aptn and type in bistro on Norte dame, you will see the video! 10/10 rating from us!

Incredible place!! This is one of the few places that serves up bison and elk. Not only that, their menu is dynamic, so in a few months, there are some changes. The accompanying sides do not appear to be a side thought, but rather do pair nicely with the main. Even something as simple as fried potatoes has something to add to the experience.

Bistro offers a dedication to local fare that is worthy of support. I believe they source everything they reasonably can from Manitoba - inquire with the staff for full details.
Food is the most critical aspect of a restaurant, and Bistro offered very creative dishes. My friends and I tried a variety of the menu and loved items such as the soup and fries. The sandwiches were a bit dry / salty and could have been better balanced. Still, we all appreciated the use of local ingredients!
Definitely give Bistro a try! They’re made of what’s real.

Had an amazing brunch in this cozy spot. The fusion Métis inspired menu has so many delicious looking dishes that I’m eager to try. Everyone at our table agreed this is a hidden gem that more folks need to know about. The courtyard is adorable and I can’t wait to come back in the warmer months to enjoy it.
