We had a late night craving for pho and this was the only Vietnamese restaurant opened in the area after 9 PM. I ordered their Satay (peanut broth), banh mi sandwich and the pork rice with eggs and pickled vegetable on the side. The broth of satay was underwhelming and upon one sip it tasted like water, I had to douse it with sriracha, Chili oil and Hoisin sauce which slightly helped? There were curdles of peanut butter sauce in the middle of the soup which was very unappetizing. It seems like they just squeezed their peanut sauce into the soup upon serving. It was also very disappointing that the meat in my pho were greyish pale after sitting in the soup after 15 mins and tasted close to spoiling. The banh mi sandwich tasted fairly good but the meat was cold and it felt like they just took it out of the refrigerator. The pork rice with eggs and the pickled veggies on the side was okay, I liked the crispy fried egg but the meat definitely had a strange aftertaste.
Overall: The atmosphere is more
like of a pub with dine-in and it opens conveniently after late night hours which would have been good if you have a pho craving but this definitely did not hit the craving! ☹️ You can expect to pay $15-20 for each dish which is a bit pricy but unjustified for the poor taste. Hopefully, they work more on the taste of their food as this was very disappointing. I recommend going to Pho Binh Minh on Sargent or Pho Hoang instead!!!

We came in fairly late and they still served us with a fantastic attitude. Food and drinks were delicious and satisfying. Everything was flavoured and cooked perfectly, spring rolls super crispy, Vietnamese coffee wasn't too sweet, shrimp were cleaned very well. This is a new go-to dinner spot; portions are huge, you really get your money's worth and will have leftovers to boot.
Vegetarian options: Lots of great veggie options
Dietary restrictions: Mindful and accommodating of allergies

Neat place for late night Pho.Had a craving for pho and it was 11pm already. Finding this place on Google really helped. Closing time is 1am.Layout is nice and welcoming. Prices are decent and the service was great. Appetizers and main course all came within 15 mins as we were the only ones there at 1130pm.Would highly recommend for a place to eat especially if you crave Asian foods past 11pm.

I visit Chao at least once a month for food and drinks. The shrimp salad rolls and the lychee martini are my faves! Can’t go wrong! The server/bartender/owner Tang always takes care of his customers so you feel like family.

Liked the little upstairs bar area. Very cute - wasps overwhelming so would keep that to drinks if I went again. Food was just ok. Not very much of it for the price. Maybe just a bad night for them but unimpressed this time .
Vegetarian options: There were a couple of options. My friend had a vegetarian choice - again it was ok. But not worth returning for if this night was representative of most nights.

I was born in Vietnam and eat out at Vietnamese restaurants in Winnipeg almost once a week so I like to think that I know a thing or two about Vietnamese food. We were very excited to try this place based on the Google reviews but sadly the food was very disappointing. We each had a different vermicelli bowl and both agreed that everything lacked flavor, including the fish sauce which barely tasted like anything. Add to that the cost of each dish was 50% more than at other Vietnamese restaurants. If you want actual Vietnamese food with flavor at a decent price, go to Pho No 1 or Viva.
