The new owners are fantastic and ensure consistent product is served. Interior has been renovated so either take-out or dine-in are great options. Chicken Chef is a staple Manitoba restaurant and for good reason. This particular location is particularly better than others.

Wish I could rate you better but the customer experience was not to par. Last time we visited was the same so we thought to be fair we would come back. Unfortunately no better.Strike 1. Seated and ordered quickly but never told we would be waiting 1 hour for our food to arrive at our table. Had we known, we would have made a decision as we had other plans afterwards .Strike 2. As we each all ordered different items we noticed a dinner under the warmer that sat there for 20 minutes which appeared to be mine. Well it was. Fries dried out on the outside, food was lukewarm at best. No one came back to ask for refills or how everything was so I will tell you here. Not good and not impressed.Strike 3. Went to pay upfront and it was our server. Again Never asked how everything was just gave us a total and how will you pay.Your out! Shame on the management not ensuring to communicate to customers or ensure staff asks how is everything. That comes down to proper training. If your kitchen is backed up an hour at supper hour, you are not scheduling enough people to handle the flow. Sorry but this location needs to get a reality check on servicing customers. Perhaps it was the waitress being afraid or not knowing to ask or even advise us that your food will be an hour. It backed me up for the evening. This was your second chance and you failed. Unfortunately you lost us for future business. Lots of options out there but you will no longer be one of them. Sorry but I am being generous with a 2 star rating.

They were able to accommodate my gluten-free dietary needs. Very friendly.Dietary restrictions: They don't have gluten-free options per se' but they offer "lettuce buns" and options like mashed potatoes etc.

Worst chicken wings ever! $10.99 for six wings. Wet, sloppy, soggy, and pink in middle. Shame to chicken wings. Server was great. I puked in bathroom 2 times just from tasting 1 wing, couldn’t finish the rest. Horrible.

Food was great (chicken, fries n coleslaw.Food was very pricey.Counter person could have told me about the special that I didn't notice until I was leaving and was essentially the same amount of chicken for about 4-6 dollars less. I will be back sometime but only occasionally because of cost.

Have to drastically alter my previous review from 5 years ago. The previous owner was extremely good, the chicken was done perfectly and everyone seemed to enjoy working there. But about a year ago, the location changed hands, and now the staff are not happy there (you can tell) and the chicken is always overdone and dried out. This used to be one of the few places that I liked white meat, but now it is like breaded sawdust. I hesitated to review as any change of ownership takes some time to settle into a rhythm but a year is more than long enough. The food is terrible now, they never have diet drinks for their drive thru specials other than cola (always had 7UP as an option), and the staff just does not seem to give a damn any more.We will no longer be trying here... as horrible as it sounds, KFC is now a better choice in the area. I do want to emphasize that this issue is specific to this location- other ones in the city are still excellent. Hope the owner smartens up and goes back to the way the food was prepped by the previous owners but I won't know as I will not be back.

Food was fine, ordered two 3 piece dinners received a small breast in each along with a tiny drumstick and a wing are you kidding me! Here’s a tip stop giving a lousy bun and less fries and maybe give better quality chicken pieces.

+.5 for serviceI keep hearing that this is the best Chicken Chef location in the city. I was in the St. James area one day with my roommate and he wanted me to try this place (I shockingly had never been to Chicken Chef; it was usually Popeyes/Jollibee/Red Top for me when it comes to fried chicken). It wasn't too busy when I went here. Their TVs were consistently showing aquarium scenes. There was a steady stream of customers ordering take out here.I had a three piece chicken dinner, with coleslaw and onion rings. Their fried chicken is pressure cooked, so it's not as crispy as the other places. It's healthier though! The salad was average, the onion rings were poor.Service was good here. I wouldn't rate this as my top fried chicken place in the city, but a "sure I'll stop by if I'm nearby and you insist" situation.
