For what is a minimum $300 experience, this was not the luxury or level of service that I would have expected. I went to B-Side with friends for my birthday. I've been a patron at B-Side before and have had a good experience, but this time left disappointed.
First, we were not told at booking about the required bottle service and room minimum of $300. Even worse, when we arrived and we're told about the minimum, the karaoke room wasn't ready for us: the music volume was low and the mics didn't work, repeatedly. This was especially frustrating because we were on a countdown clock so every minute that something didn't work cut into our time having fun. We often had to hunt for wait staff to help us. While our server did come to us immediately at the beginning, they didn't check on us frequently and sometimes we had to go hunting to find them for things like additional mixers for our bottle service, help with the technical issues in the room, and even to pay our bill! At a standard club when you order bottle service, there's a bit more fanfare like sparklers and at minimum, VIP level attention from staff.
On top of that, we found the Songa interface difficult to use and with a limited song selection. Or maybe it had a great song selection but was too difficult to interact with that we missed the songs we wanted. The service also wasn't stellar - not bad, just not great.
Last week was especially disappointing given that my friends had traveled for hours from out of town to attend.
I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that it gives B-side ideas for how to improve the karaoke experience. I love that Baltimore has a place with private karaoke rooms, and this place has so much potential to make it stellar for future patrons.

My experience with this establishment was very disappointing after such high hopes to celebrate my husbands birthday. I made a reservation through open table for 5 people because that was the max. (Reservation for B-Side speakeasy and karaoke)…I called this past Monday 10/28 for assistance in adjusting it to reflect my party size (10 ppl at the time). The woman I spoke with said the size was fine and if for any reason my party INCREASED to give a call back, which I did on Wednesday 10/30 to advise our party was 15ppl. At that time she advised this was fine she’s just going to make a note of it. I asked was there an issue w/ the room space or F&B minimum she said no it’s still a $300 min w/ 20% gratuity. So Saturday 11/2 comes and we are “greeted” by Delante he said our reservation is in the karaoke room 101 1st, we seen the room which resembled a closet, I asked if there was a bigger room he said NO, I don’t know who you spoke with but your party size is tooo big so y’all will just have to make it work. Rude tone from the jump and no accommodations made, all of his statements were open ended responses, but dare not ask an additional question. I asked if we could go back and forth to the speakeasy side to free up the room space some, he advised No, they have reservations up until 9:45, (they close at 1), so I asked if our party can enter around 10 since the karaoke room has a time limit of 2 hours, he said yes! So we made the best of the room and ordered a bottle and some food. One of our guest asked the food runner if she can bring a chair and can she order something else, the runner said “no we’re already doing you’ll a favor by LETTING you be here with this party size.” Unprofessional, at that point our 2 hours our up and we pay the bill with Delante and ask if we can migrate to the speakeasy area, he said NO we’re fully booked! I asked how are you booked when we requested to come in at 10, he said we have an 11:00 reservation now and typically you need a contract to buy out the area with your party size, I said, you never said that in a beginning, please get a manager at this point. So he does and is over in the corner cursing and scrolling through the iPad for managing the reservations he allegedly had.
Andrea the manager speaks with me and apologizes for the experience and said they were suppose to give us TWO karaoke rooms and tell us about a buyout for the speakeasy in the beginning during my Monday and Wednesday call. I requested an apology from Delante, which she advised he WOULD provide, in the meantime she asked where we were with our night and would we be okay with going upstairs to the Topside area, although the closed at 11, she was willing to allow us to stay there longer, provide us a special seating area, 2 bottles of champagne and a round of drinks for free. We accepted, I can appreciate her attempt at turning the night around and the staff upstairs was very patient and accommodating & even brought my husband a small dessert. Delante was never sent upstairs to apologize and honestly at that point it didn’t matter because it wouldn’t have been genuine, but it comes down to the principle. My overall issue here is the miscommunication, and lack luster customer service from the people on the phone from F&B, Delante and the food runner. We got attitude left and right in person. I understand a large party can be intimidating, but making us feel like an inconvenience and not welcomed was enough for 15 people to conclude not to return.

CUSTOMER BEWARE -- What began as an exciting birthday celebration ended in scamming and regret. Upon booking a karaoke room, I was provided info that food and drinks WOULD be available for order as long as a $300 minimum is met for my group. But this was a DRASTIC OMISSION OF INFORMATION & DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICES -- SEE BELOW:
LIE #1: When we got to our karaoke room, we were told we could NOT order cocktails, and that the kitchen was closed, so we could not order food. I would NEVER have booked a 10:30 time slot if I knew food would be unavailable.
LIE #2: Also ONLY alcoholic drinks available in the karaoke room was bottle service for HUNDREDS of dollars. This is despite the speakeasy cocktail bar being literally 5 feet from the karaoke room!! No beer, no wine available, only hard liquor and cheap mixers. THE CHEAPEST option (which we ordered) was $100 for Titos, $200 Don Julio with a few mixers, and was the only combination of bottles which would not drastically exceed $300.
LIE #3: When the bill arrived there was also added an $50 service fee (while we didn't even order food or cocktails, only a waiter checked in on us several time) + tax, so the final bill neared $400.
Though Karaoke was fun, don't waste your time or money on this experience. Don't be fooled by the omission of key information about what it is you are booking. Next time, a $8 vodka soda at Walt's Inn will do just fine.

Karaoke wasn’t great, tv turned off. Food was average at best and overpriced. Menu was very short…
Service wasn’t great, karaoke stopped every 5 min. Songs sound like kids bop. Room has asbestos on the ceiling.
Ms. Sanchez the manager was amazing. She was nice and friendly. I will definitely go again. My friends and myself had an amazing time in the karaoke room. The atmosphere and design of the rooms were cool. Oh and the food was good too ?

I generally like B-Side as a bar and have had a positive experience there. The vibe is nice, and the drinks are great, however the karaoke is another situation entirely and was extremely disappointing.
We reserved the largest room for a birthday and on the website it's clear that there is a $300 drink + food minimum. That's fine, B-Side's cocktails are great and we should have no problem racking that up. Except when we went on Sunday evening at 8 PM, we were informed it was bottle service only -- we could NOT order any cocktails.
Instead we were presented with a list of liquors that included Tito's for $100, Bacardi white rum for $100, Grey Goose for $125, and it only went up from there. There was no wine or beer to pick from. The bottle service included mixers. We picked Grey Goose + Bacardi, and got a bucket of ice, a Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, Fever Tree tonic water, Fever Tree club soda, and limes. Expecting amazing cocktails, and ending up with college level party drinks was quite a downer, and no-one in our group was happy about this. Additionally they said we couldn't take the unfinished liquor home so this felt like a total rip off.
We also ended up getting 3 plates of cannolis to get us over the limit since we'd already ate dinner elsewhere, and those were pretty bland.
In terms of karaoke, they gave us two mics at first and only one worked. We asked about the broken mic and then were told "oh there's only one mic for this room." Then why give us two?
I just double checked the website too and there's no mention of bottle service. On the description on OpenTable it even says: "Located across the lounge, groups of 4 to 8 guests can also reserve one of three private karaoke rooms with cocktail service" -- what gives?
