We spent an unplanned night in downtown Baltimore, and were pleased to find this place the next morning. It saved us from a stodgy hotel lobby breakfast. The menu offers vegan brekky in the form of customizable sandwiches, wraps, and pastries. And the coffee was hot & yum. Great spot; funky vibes; I felt like the least cool person in the room 🙃

Had high hopes as I live in the neighborhood and wanted a new breakfast spot! Which the sandwich itself is fine, but why in the world I wasn’t allowed to put pepperjack cheese on it when it’s clearly an option on the menu, & I could visibly see pepper jack cheese slices in the little cheese box??? Both staff rudely responded to my request & the inability to put the cheese I preferred on the sandwich I’m paying $9 for, and made me feel ridiculous for such a request? Like it’s a slice of cheese? Lmao ok.

I really wanted to like this place. The decor is nice, I love that they sell records, and their drinks are usually pretty solid. I was hoping it would become one of my regular spots.

But I had an experience that I just can’t overlook. I ordered a large espresso drink, but when it came out, it tasted like warm milk with almost no coffee flavor. I politely mentioned this and asked if they could add an extra shot of espresso. The barista explained that they use the same amount of espresso regardless of the drink size and that I’d need to pay for an extra shot if I wanted it stronger. I was fine with paying more, but I suggested they might want to let customers know that ordering a larger size just means more milk, not more coffee.

She brushed off the feedback, simply saying, “That’s just how we make it.” Hoping for a more receptive ear, I mentioned the same thing to another staff member, but she too was dismissive and even caught an attitude, telling me it was “only 50 cents” for the extra shot. However, when I went to pay, I was charged $1.47. When I pointed this out, she snapped back, saying, “No, you’re wrong,” and proceeded to glare at me for the rest of my visit.

It’s not about the extra dollar—it’s the dismissive attitude and unwillingness to take feedback that really ruined the experience for me. I won’t be going back.

They had a gluten free roll so I got the vegan egg (bc the regular egg had milk in it) turkey sausage and vegan cheese. Amazing! No stomach issues. I wanted another!

Mango Kambucha was also amazing!

Good amount of indoor and outdoor seating.

Cashier was very helpful especially due to my intolerances.

Sorry - I forgot to take a photo this time.

Disappointing all around. The matcha was overly sweet and tasted like syrup. The person taking my order kept getting things wrong and seemed like they weren’t even listening. Totally disengaged and barely made eye contact. The vibe felt more bored than cool and the food didn’t make up for it. Cute idea with the records but not worth the hype.

If you’re in the area, you’re better off checking out places like Artifact Coffee, Ceremony, or Dovecote CafĂ© that offer much better drinks, food, and service.

Baby's on Fire really rides on the fact that the product that they're serving is high-quality.

The location is bleak, and the staff were less than pleasant.

Visited this place for the very 1st time. Not sure if I will return. Small coffee shop capable of seating about 20 people max.

I rated it low stars because I ordered an iced coffee and they said they didnt have any change to provide. Additionally I'd have to surrender my change since they didnt have change. What kind of establishment is this? The coffee wasn't cheap..pricer than Starbucks or any food chain $6.73. And I still couldn't get my change. I believe had the service been nicer I wouldn't have felt all too bad but I didnt even get a hello or hows your day going in greeting a customer. This would be typical of a small niche coffee shop. I wanted to buy pastries and they were sold out. Not sure I would have purchased the two remaining mini croissants at $ 3.25 a piece. Costco have bigger croissants than this with them being fresh and at $6/ package.

Anyways. I doubt I'd return.

Probably my favorite coffee shop in the city, for having a coffee and a sandwich in a cool vibe. I don't usually try to do work here, but I have done some reading and shorter amounts of work.

Baby’s On Fire is a charming little coffee and bake shop with a unique personality. It’s also part record store, offering a small but curated selection of vinyl—a cool touch that sets it apart. The space is on the smaller side, but there’s a good amount of seating, and most people were quietly working on their laptops, giving it a calm, cozy vibe.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. I asked who “Baby” was, and they shared that the shop is named after the song “Baby’s On Fire”—a fun bit of character that adds to the spot’s charm.

I stopped in for a drink and ordered the Lavender Cardamom Latte. There was a small upcharge for oat milk, but nothing unreasonable. The drink was good—you could taste the lavender, and it was balanced, not overpowering. They offer iced or hot. The cost was $8 with oat milk charge and tax.

Overall, this is a great place to relax, get some work done, or just enjoy a well-crafted coffee. I’ll definitely be back to try more from their drink menu! They also have vegan baked goods available.
