This place has been around for two years and holds itself out as a cool-sophisticated spot. The food was nothing to rave about (spinach salad and small plate tacos). But the biggest disappointment was the service and front of the house staff. They were very slow and as a result the staff seemed half asleep. I hope that they can pay more attention to what they do. Everyone seemed on sleep-mode. Customer service was nearly nonexistent. The front of the house manager recognized it and apologized profusely and said she would do better. But it’s a great location and after two years they still are not setting exacting standards and training their staff. I hold out hope for improvement. Otherwise it’s to bankruptcy court. The sad trivia mistress only detracts from their potential positive vibe. Buck up! You can do it!

We had a private event at Dear Charles and it was a fantastic experience. From the start of planning, the entire staff was helping, communicative and accessible. Our event was a corporate event, but the dining room and the food helped it be a relaxed atmosphere for all of our attendees.

We had our son's Rehearsal Dinner at Dear Charles over the weekend and it was fabulous! The food, the space, the service, the bar were all so good. Especially the servers who seamlessly provided drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert. Highly recommend!

Was able to come to the Yelp event held here and had an amazing time. Anna was our host and Kayla was our cohost, both did a phenomenal job planning and organizing the event.
Daniel the GM and Fatima are the 2 I remembered most and made this experience good with the customer service they provided.
I tasted the following:
Calamari: 9/10 really enjoyed, would order again
Falafel: 8/10 surprisingly good
Short rib sliders: 10/10 get this!!
Brussels sprouts no bacon: 7/10
Fish and chips: 7/10 battered beautifully but wish it had more seasoning.
Orzo puttanesca: 8/10 first time trying and I actually liked it
Cherry old fashioned: 10/10 unique and not too sweet
Ghost plane: 10/10 I love it
Items regular seem a little pricy so might be best for an happy hour ordeal.

This is a really nice bar / restaurant located right off of JHU's campus. The inside is a bit on the smaller end, but they have a great cocktail menu and nice variety of food options. The calamari was delicious, and definitely a great appetizer option. Cool spot to check out!

Taste is there but cooking is awful. Everything is overcooked to the point texture is bad. Cauliflower, calamari all mushy. Should be crispy. Too much dressing on the salad. Need the train the cook right.
I had an awesome night at Dear Charles. Fatima was wonderful and both the food and drinks were amazing. We had the bistro filet, the oysters (which we highly recommend), and the calamari. The blue jay cocktail was also great. Thank you to Fatima and we will definitely be back!

I’ve been to this place a couple times and the food is good but both times I was coming in for lunch but the lunch menu wasn’t being served. First time only small plates were available and the second time only brunch. Can y’all please add hours to your menus online so I know when you’re serving each menu? The food was tasty both times I visited but I had a craving for specific dishes I couldn’t order because I had looked at the menu online beforehand. Kind of baffled why a lunch menu wouldn’t be available at 12:30 pm on a Saturday.

We were disappointed by this restaurant. The water tasted of dirt, just like another reviewer had mentioned. We ordered salads with chicken- the bib lettuce and Caesar salads. The chicken was blackened and not grilled, which some in our party did not enjoy. They also didn't have the spiced walnuts in the bib salad, which was a key feature. So overall, just disappointed for what the restaurant is trying to be and the price point.

Very nice place and ambiance, however the food was not good. The focaccia came out burnt, the burger was very fatty and the fries that came with it were cooked in oil that was probably not hot enough so they were tasting weird, steak was ok but portion very small and mushrooms on top tasted funny. The gnocchi short rib were such a small plate and lack flavor. The apple crumble was good. The water they broad tasted like plants/dirt water - very bizarre. The waitress though was very nice and the place elegant but at the same time easy going. I hope they will improve the food soon, it would be a pity otherwise… prices are also a bit too high for what you get.
