The communication inCharles county DSS office is by far the worse I have seen in a long while! It is very sad when people have power with other lives. The DSS employees on the front line are not trained in communication and empathy. This is something you are taught in your home by your parents. Most of us that come to DSS for help are already down, abused and emotionally damaged. Coming into a place that is run by our state government is a safe feeling. We expect the employees to be ready to help us because we don’t know what we are doing. When we come to the window to find out why our benefits have been closed!, we want someone to say “ one moment mam let me check”. I have NEVER been greeted by someone with a smile or a opening statement of may I help you?. it is really depressing to have to come to a place to get help on a Medicaid issue or a food stamps and cash issue and be treated lIke I am intruding on everyone’s life. It concerns me very much how mean and uneducated our government workers can be.I don’t know how your problem can get fixed, but I will say maybe to start out with looking at applications closely interview better. If someone can not speak clearly and nicely to an interviewer, they probably won’t talk Nice to the clients. The other thing that is needed is information. The clients need to know what the new rules are. How to get an appt. With a supervisor. The phone numbers available to the clients. Maybe a sign with this information. I didnt know until I came in that everything had changed. I had toask. A lot of these people don’t even think about asking the question. I actually had to show several a people How to get in touch with their case worker or supervisor because they were lost! They also were afraid to ask anything because it is such a cold and unfriendly atmosphere. I believe your employees would be less irritated if they also had communication from their bosses or Baltimore offices. The employees also need to know how to help so many people that come in with the same issues others are having, if they can’t help the clients because they have not been communicated the way to fix the issues clients are having, that causes their moral to go down. Well I am done ranting. Looking for better experiences at DSS..

Something told me to go read the reviews on the MD DHS and I am not surprised. I went online as the website suggested to apply for CS services in August. I’m a patient person and I know the system takes time to work… so I called today after checking online again to see if my case status had changed. It still had not. I called DHS, and was told there has been NO movement on my case since I submitted it. The employee stated that 6 months is a normal time frame to get the paperwork started. 6 months is normal to sit in someone’s inbox???? With no review.. no nothing? That’s concerning.

If I get told one more time to go on line.... My experience then reading every review, WHY DONT THE CURRENT EMPLOYEES be monitored for a month by management. Management shd read their staff reviews and realize there is a major customer care issue. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DISRESPECT..REVIEWS are a report card for a business, government etc. Please MANAGEMEMENT read, care, and react to your reviews. There are problems with many of your employees. Bring the hammer down. Fire the sluggs, lazy, disrespectful, lack or character people. There are better people to replace them. CARE

The DHS and the 311 service is one of the worst and most horrible services I have ever had to deal with. I asked for funeral and burial help or information. I put the request in as soon as my mother passed within hours because I knew these things never go fast with county/government processes. I did not expect the level of disrespect and not a single care given. I was called back for food stamp information and then that lady refused to connect me to a higher up. REFUSED. Its on their recorded lines, she REFUSED. She then also told me I had her for 12 minutes before 430 and she would clock out. On their recorded lines.None of them seem to know who to contact or just refuse to help you. They also don't care, they really dont she a ounce of sympathy for people just looking for information while dealing with the death of a mother. My mother lived in MD and Montgomery County for 30 plus years. I live and was raised here. We paid years and and life times of taxes for this state and county. All for us to ask for help and be taken as a joke by the employees and the county itself. By Maryland itself. They never return emails or calls in a timely manner they just respond or call weeks after and say "You called about a issue? what was the issue?" and the time I expressed the issue "Oh you need to speak with *blank* not us."The fact that my taxes pay this is ridiculous.Hands down corrupt, lying and dirty business practices ever.

I called in today with a very simple call. The agent was very rude, very disrespectful and refused in the beginning to get me a supervisor. She cut me off several times as i was giving the information multiple times. Her name was Shondra agent ID N11674. The calling service never does what they are supposed to do. That call needs to be pulled and coaching needs to be had. To get off the phone with me she even stated she was hanging up do to an abusive call. I had not said anything abusive or threatening.

None of the employees know what they’re doing. I’ve been dealing with years of the people who should know, saying “I don’t know”. Then you don’t get to eat for months because someone didn’t submit a paper or just doesn’t know the basic info they should. Constantly not knowing their own system and MAKING US TAX PAYERS SUFFER FOR IT! Also, they showed up an hour late to every appointment I’ve had with them (but yk, if we do that we have to starve, right?). If I could give you a 0 I would, but I can’t so you’ll get a pity star<3

I called for help, and the receptionist was extremely rude and unhelpful. Even to the point where she said, I was the one calling Help not her.

it’s very unfortunate to see that not only I am going through a crisis because the system took my FEDERAL TAX money & is charging me child support MIND YOU I DONT HAVE ANY CHILDREN . They said it was an issue , an error on their behalf’s & that they are sorry but isn’t doing anything about it . IM 20 YEARS OF AGE NOT ONLY DID THEY STEAL MY MONEY THEY ARE CHARGING ME CHILD SUPPORT WHEN I HAVE NO CHILDREN. I cannot believe this is America’s system. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU . I’ve been playing phone tags back to back , trying to see if SOMEONE can help me but no. No help , all I can do is get me a lawyer to make them pay .

We have been waiting since August after being approved for SNAP for his card to arrive. Called they reissued card. Waiting now there's is NO WAY to speak to them place that mails out the cards.Case Worker said there's 4 months of benefits in card and after 4 months they take 1month off. Can not get through the automated system to speak to anyone. My next call Monday will be to them Governors office.

Same thing everybody else has said. These are lazy overpaid government workers. The best thing you can do is not need anything from this office because if you do they are absolutely no help.

Have tried and tried to get ahold of them for days and as usual I'm on hold for 2 hours ask for a call back and never get one . When they do answer say they can't help and I have to go online. My food stamps has me listed as the same person twice with making triple the amount of make a month. It's just crazy certain people are responsible for the food that goes in your family's mouth and they just leave you high and dry with no answers . Honestly if I didn't need them I would've quit dealing with the stupid stuff a long time ago

A typical day at DHR for me. You wait in line to a apply for assistance, just to wait to get 30to 40mins just to get told you have to go to Rockville. What is the point of allowing people to apply for assistance . So now I wasted half my morning because I got nothing accomplished at this location. Then the 1800 DHR number has you on hold for hours . It’s okay guess to get treating like a animal and have to run around in Montgomery County all day. Silver Spring is supposed to help you.You got to Rockville just to get told that they can’t help you help you then you get referred back to silver Spring they can’t help you either. All I’m doing is going back and forth while my situation gets worse by the day. People fall on hard times that’s a natural human thing and for those who can get through life without falling on their face because life is so perfect for them good for them too. But please do better DHR because some people need assistance so that their situation can get corrected

The automated customer service system is terrible I called at 4:30 PM The system said stay on the line for the next available representative and at 5:20 PM It kept saying the same thing and the offices close at 5:00 PM

This place will not assist you. They have very rude workers and the system its self is failing us. This place should be shut down immediately.

This department took my kid while I was in a ventilator, dying in the hospital, handed her over to an abuser, then filed saying I neglected her while I was in the hospital. After I was released months later trying to learn how to walk/talk again, I tried to fight it but their JUDGE stated that since I was so thin (I was still really Ill mind you) and my hair wet from the rain, that I neglected her. I couldn’t believe this! I literally DIED in that hospital and came out to that. I had issues with them prior where they held a meeting with all of these people and my kid and I and literally hanged up on me telling me that taking away her internet was child abuse as a disciplinary action. Unreal! Hate them. They are awful
