I was surprised on Valentine's Day for a date night cooking session with Chef David. It was so much fun and hands down one of my favorite dates I've had. The location is a bit hidden and is located in a small area with parking on site. It's a bit dark but there's also a lot of smaller businesses around the area too. Upon arrival we were greeted Jill who is the marketing manager behind pizza university. She was very sweet and engaging with my boyfriend and I. The establishment feels warm. There's seating available, office space and a bunch of photographs of pizza establishments that use their uniquely built ovens. Down the hallway, we were welcomed to a large kitchen with all the necessary equipment. It was decorated with valentine themes, candy, chocolates, snacks, wines, sodas and water. There were 2 large TV screens and nice jazz music. Chef David went through the menu and basics of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen. We discussed the importance of holding a knife properly and selecting one that best fits the individual. For the menu, we did a nice salad with the lettuce charred, garlic bread, chicken, rockfish, ribeye, poached lobster, double baked potatoes and mixed veggies and a chocolate lava cake. It was quite a lot of food but I learned a lot! I would say my favorite thing to make was the lobster. I've always wanted to learn how to properly de-shell a lobster so that was cool. It looks easier on those TV cooking shows than in real life. Overall, it was a really great experience. They change up their events regularly so I would be happy to come back to learn more and cook different cuisines again.

My life is now complete since attending Pizza University. This is a wonderful cooking school that has Italian baking classes. It is a family run business that also makes pizza ovens. They are pricey but the rotating ones can make 250 pizzas an hour. We took the Italian bread baking course. It featured pizza, calzones, Stromboli, focaccia & bread. We sampled items that we made and took most items home. The chef demonstrates first and then has the students make the dish. The chefs rotate, so it is worth reading the web site to see who is teaching each class. I have taken classes from Amy Riolo before. She is great at explaining tasks in easy to understand detail. She includes the history of a dish and makes the class even more interesting. Classes are one - three days. You can sign up for one class or take several. The classes can take three to four hours. All those pizza ovens will make the room get hot. Wear comfy clothing and not a suit. Pizza University gives fun aprons to wear. All the recipes are handed out and explained in detail. The CEO was circulating throughout the class and was great about sharing the proper way to handle dough. Who knew that keeping your finished dough on the pizza handle too long could cause the pizza to stick? The family members stopped by our tables and showed us how to make the dough look perfect. The building is in an industrial area near Maryland University. The parking lot is small, but the classes aren't crowded. It was really fun eating our homework!
