I walked into this shop and two patrons were openly talking about starting a posse and shooting people in the head, it was incredibly violent and uncomfortable and the shop owner did not seem concerned about this behavior even though other people were visibly uncomfortable.
Those patrons looked like regulars, I don't intend on coming back if that kind of behavior isn't curbed. It just did not feel safe.
Staff is always great, and they have a fair selection of beer and wine. I only wish they carried Hofbräuhaus and a slightly larger selection of German beer in general.
Grape Escape is a unique treasure – they have a fantastic beer/wine selection, they’re a cool local hangout/bar, and they’re an intimate live music venue. The beers are perfectly cold, and the staff warm and helpful. I enjoyed Grape Escape under previous ownership and have found the new owners to be equally as gracious and completely committed to maintaining and growing its coolness. I look forward to many more years of frequenting this fun shop and gathering place!
I’m so sad to report that this place is under new ownership, and it is not the same. We would periodically visit for trivia or while our kids have activities in the Kentlands. The previous owner was so nice and welcoming, and we loved visiting with regulars.
The environment is completely different now. I would recommend finding any other place for your night out.
Mark was my deliverer…and he brought my order as soon as possible. Obviously, they had a lot going on and multiple orders to fill this evening, as this establishment chooses to deliver their OWN ORDERS, versus using DOORDASH drivers.
I was in no hurry, and their resturant/bar/establishment is less than a mile from my house…but I was in no hurry, and Mark was polite, accommodating, and REALLY CUTE!👍🏼😜
Great local hangout spot in the Kentlands. Very cool neighborhood bar feel. They have live music multiple nights a week, and host other fun events through the week as well. This venue is very supportive of live music and local artists. They host a bi- weekly open mic that is loaded with talent. Very supportive and welcoming environment. One of my favorite places in the Kentlands.
Unwelcoming establishment with a culture of gatekeeping. This establishment hosts a regular Tuesday open mic and the Facebook event did not convey any language that it was only for music as they used words such as performer and talent and they kept a language very open ended. I even called the establishment in advance to confirm That all art forms are allowed, and I even provided an example of other open mics that don’t specify what art forms are allowed, and then it ends up being music only. When I arrived, the person in charge said that it was music only, and I assured them that the person on the phone told me otherwise and they reluctantly agreed to give me two minutes of stage time And claimed that they like to laugh, which clearly isn’t true because they only do music. The employees of the store had nothing to say, and there were no customers which means the business either doesn’t know what it’s doing or it embraces a gatekeeping culture. do not support this business.
Great place, great people and great variety of beers!
Lost all hope in this location. Use to have a decent core of staff that held customers together. But new owners I would say forced (I could use other words) them out. They have no real clue about friendship and customers service with clients nor employees. But again this is a business your employees make your store! but this isn’t a beer and wine store you found down Georgia ave.
Since the new owners took over, they’ve had some of the usual growing pains you’d expect with a transition, but they’ve clearly worked through them. I’m here on a Friday night and the vibe is great, service is on point, the live music is going strong, and the beer is ice cold and poured to the top. Looks like they’re finding their groove.

I know this will sound like a really random review but more people need to know about the candles they sell here. They smell divine. And they always get the best live music! It’s literally a grape (great) escape if you want a place with nice ambiance and friendly people.
I hosted a mini high school reunion at Graoe Escape yesterday and it was perfect! Anita was great at communicating with me to plan, they reserved tables for us and were so welcoming! Service was excellent as was the live music and vibes! Great event space for a relaxing get together.
This place is great! The wine selection here is fantastic and they have so many events during the week. The current owners are really friendly and support local music. I’ll definitely come back again!
I have been a patron and performer at Grape since the beginning, so through all four ownerships and the new owners and staff are excellent. I love a venue that supports live local music so get in there and support them. And they always have my favorite beer and the wife’s favorite wine!
New owners are horrible.
My family and I have frequented Grape Escape for years, but after your treatment towards us, we will not return until ownership changes. You can play the victim card, but you berating your customers in front of others is not acceptable. Rich was great as well as the other owners before him. Now, customer service has gone downhill and looks like you are using the race card to hide from your lousy customer service. Cleo and Tobe are wonderful, just want to make note of that.
