“My wife and I arrived shortly after Saturday morning opening. A cheerful Giovanni promptly welcomed us. I informed him we would be a party of 5 or 6, the rest of our party would be there shortly. Giovanni welcomed us to wait at the bar, and handed us menus to get familiar with. He also offered to prepare any drinks we might be interested in and mentioned several. We do not drink, but hung out at the front. We mentioned we were celebrating my daughter's birthday. This was our first visit here. When the rest of our party arrived, Mark had our table ready. Giovanni brought us to the table. He took care of water and checking if we wanted any other beverages. After that, we ordered two starters. A dozen oysters on the half shell, and their smoked fish platter. Both were very well presented and very appetizing. We ordered our entrees sometime during the appetizers. Giovanni was continously smiling, joking around, and very happy in general. Our main course were served in a timely manner. Everyone ordered something different. Every dish was very well prepared and presented. The serving sizes were generous, from our point of view. We were full and satiated, but not stuffed. Everything was fresh looking and fresh tasking. The seasoning brought out the natural flavors of the proteins and sides. Everyone had a clean plate at the end. To our surprise, Giovanni brought over a desert with a candle in it. He led us in a happy birthday song. Obviously we were very happy with the entire experience and look forward to visiting again.”

My only complaint, and the reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5, is that Yard House does not keep salt and pepper on the tables. Why? I think this is a huge miss. I had to request salt and pepper, and because my server was sat a big table right before my request, I had to wait more than 5 minutes before finally getting it, as my food got cold. This wasn't my servers fault, this is 100% on management for this silly policy. In the future I'll ask for salt and pepper as soon as I'm seated.”

I did not mind after opening the wrapper. My burger looked like it was professionally wrapped by Santa's #1 elf. The burger was tall and not compressed. The bun was warm and moist. When I saw the cheese, I knew they had just made it for me. The cheese was warm but still had it's square shape. I could see every ingredient without lifting the bun. It was beautiful. I took a bite, and it was pur perfection! The burger was juicy and tender. The onions were crisp and gave texture. The mayo and cheese kept everything together and mild the punch of the onions. The fries were also good, crispy, and smooth on the inside. Everything was fresh and hot. I don't even like fast food, but this is the best I've ever had. Checkers' new model should be, "We might be slower, but we are the best fast food you will ever have!" I will gladly wait to get another burger like that. I plan on going back tomorrow. My only issue is I paid $14.38 for the medium combo. Why?”

“Last night, I ordered takeout of their Creole pasta. I ordered online and in the notes I asked for extra sauce. The extra sauce was missed, but I didn’t realize until I was home. I called and asked if I could come back up to pick up some extra sauce for my pasta. That wasn’t sufficient for management. Not only did they send me extra sauce, they prepared a whole new pasta for me. The management was kind and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place. I would also recommend the Creole Pasta.”

“Work down the street from this place. The owner came in to chat with a coworker. After they finished chatting he said "I'll bring you guys a couple sample bagels" well the next day he came back with enough samples to feed an army. He brought 2 big bags of bagels, 2 boxes of croissants, 2 boxes of donuts. We now have enough samples to last a month. Needless to say all of us are happy and full and all of our customers are happy and full. The owner is a very nice guy.”

“I give this place five stars simply for the effort and the fact that I’m a small business owner, I don’t like the idea of leaving low star ratings. The food however is definitely generic and not worth the money. What a joke. I eat catfish at enough restaurants to know that this place is selling frozen catfish fillets from the local grocery store (doubt it was catfish, looked and tasted like frozen whiting) which definitely irritated me because when I pay catfish prices I expect some fresh fish that you would get from an actual seafood market like every REAL soul food place sells. Mac and cheese is not bad but I can tell it’s made from some cheap store brand shredded cheese instead of some high quality cheddar. The half and half is not real, it’s some half and half powder that you add water to. Again, a REAL soul food restaurant is making REAL sweet tea and REAL lemonade separately and then mixing it together in a cup, that is what you call half and half. Cabbage was ok. Sadly I see the same trend with our people, always looking to save a dollar and cut corners not realizing that when you stop being so cheap and spend money for quality products, you get quality results. I won’t knock anyone who’s earning an honest living by trying to run a business but I definitely won’t be back! Do yourself a favor if your thinking about driving there and don’t even do it. I wouldn’t eat here again even if I lived right across the street or in the same parking lot as them. Im not sure a dog would even be satisfied with it. The people who eat here and rave about it don’t know how to cook and this place just so happens to be close by. If they tasted a real place like Ohhs and Ahhs or Mid Atlantic Soul food then they would know the place is NOT IT. Oh and here’s another tip, instead of having faded paper menus taped to your counter, try going to fedex or a local print shop and get some laminated menus. Yes I know it’ll require you to put in effort and actually spend some money but it’ll look a lot more professional.”
