At the RIO......Shrimp and Turkey Sausage grits $24, was bustin!!! The Cajun Chicken with 2 sides, $18.??, was reported to be good, but the fella wanted the chicken cooked a few minutes longer. From the time you order until you get it was long but when you get it, it is HOT.

I was excited to try this place but the food I just received is almost inedible. I'm shocked. Yams look like they were scraped from the bottom of the pot, just brown mush. Mac and cheese is also mushy and the cheese is curdled, and my fried catfish is soggy. Super disappointed!

Very clean! Outstanding customer service from all employees from start to finish & my waitress was patient & didn’t display an ounce or irritation and was very hospitable. Food was tasty.Prior to choosing to eat here with my family we went in a few different restaurants in the region that was completely unsanitary and or unwelcoming. I’m glad we chose to give this place a try .

I’m upset! My son’s chicken sandwich was drenched in honey.. he had to put gloves on just to eat it. I got the shrimp & grits, which was swimming in liquid, but let’s just rename this HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!!! No flavor, just salt!!!!!! I also got the chicken pasta and I don’t what that is hitting on. Update coming soon.I spent $80… talk about upset!!!!Update: the pasta was also very salty…Went back to speak with manager about the quality of food and this woman wouldn’t even come out the back to speak with me. Wow.

Today I had the opportunity and pleasure of having dinner with my daughters. My daughter surprised me with food from a restaurant called Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen in Gaithersburg Maryland. On Mondays we have daughter and granddaughter transition days and when I tell you it was the best Southern food I've had in years. Believe me, it took me back to a moment in time cooking with my grandfather. There is an old saying " She stuck her foot in that!" meaning the quality of the food was excellent. I could taste the time spent on the collard greens, the slight aftertaste of vinegar and hot sauce well seasoned with smoked turkey meat. The texture was a melt-in-your-mouth experience. I also got the four-cheese macaroni and cheese as my two sides. The amount of food was worth the price of admission. I could taste so many different flavors with the mac & cheese that only added to the overall flavor. My meat portion was the catfish. Two very large fillets of catfish seasoned just right. No salt is needed. It didn't give me a muddy aftertaste, having crispiness throughout onto the outer edges while protecting the fish portion of the meat to eat, I was truly grateful for this experience. It took me back to a place I thought I had forgotten. So if you haven't tried Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen I suggest that you give it a try. You will pleasantly be surprised that you can feel the love that went into making this food. It was absolutely delicious.

I live in Florida and travel a lot for work. As such, I love to try new-to-me places for lunch. I placed my order online and drove to the restaurant. I was 10 minutes earlier than the time they gave me and my food was ready 1 minute after I walked in.Unfortunately, while I was waiting, I got an important phone call. Since I was waiting anyways, I decided to take the call. While I was trying to handle the call, my food came out. The woman at the front came over, brought me my food and asked me to sign the receipt. No worries there - all good! While still on the phone (the call took 1min 53sec, for reference), I looked into the bag and noticed there was no utensils or napkins. Since this is a casual restaurant, I went to their drink/straw stands to see if forks and napkins were available (because I'm going to be eating in my car). While I'm trying to look, the woman came over and started asking what I was doing. I told her I needed a fork and she said, "We're out, that's why I didn't put it in your bag." Ok... Cool.. I looked back in the bag and back at her, "No worries - can I just get lots of napkins please?" ... "I said we're out." ? You said you were out of forks - but ok.When I finally got to eat my lunch, I thought it was ok. I was born and raised in the South. I thought the egg rolls were a bit dry and I expected them to have crispy bits of fried chicken in them, but it was just white meat chicken (no skin, no breading) mixed with macaroni and cheese. My deviled eggs were far too "wet" and the yolk filling is literally dripping over the sides of the eggs.Least important, the food was expensive. I was fine with this because it's a Black and woman owned business - I'm happy to contribute to important businesses in the community *if* they're quality establishments.I give second chances for food quality but not service issues. I won't be back.

Do not go if a large group! We had a group about 8 people. They split us up into two table so we couldn’t even conversate. My friend wait over an hour for his drink and three of us never got our drinks! They ran out cups & limes. The waitress gave us push back for saying something and they became very petty after we complained. The food doesn’t not live up the hype cause the service was trash.

2.22.24 Yummy food and great service. Ordered the Miss Toya Famous Fried Chicken (1/2 chicken), which came with two sides. I selected the fries and mac & cheese. The chicken and mac & cheese were the winners for me. The mac & cheese is one of the best I have had anywhere. Two colleagues ordered the chicken, but with different sides. One colleague loved the food so much she said that she would return with her husband. The portions were generous. Each of us only ate half our meals and took the rest home. My husband had my leftover chicken (white meat) and the mac & cheese. He thought they were both good. The restaurant is located across from the movie theater and Poki DC at the Washingtonian Center and around the corner of the parking garage door by the stairs.

I was in the area so I decided to stop by here since I'm always in the southern food mood. The menu items looked so good, so I was very indecisive. I ended up getting the hot honey chicken sandwich with fries and it tasted very good. Glad I got it. When I'm in the area again I'll definitely stop by to try their other food items.

Food was delicious as always. I ordered the calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was a little chewy. I also ordered the herb chicken with Mac n cheese and sweet potato casserole. The dish had great flavor. I also ordered the Peach Please drink which I was a little disappointed with. It was a little too sweet. The service was impeccable. Our waiter gave us great suggestions on what to order for the night. The wait for us to get our table was a bit long even though we had a reservation. The ambiance was great. It was really crowded and everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves. I would 100% recommend.

The experience was incredibly slow with being greeted and delivering food. The server did check on us but we had to ask for silverware, napkins, missing items. She was friendly and did respond to requets. The food took very long and was disappointingly luke warm. We ordered the fried chicken and the spicy chicken sandwiches. They were very good but we couldn't believe we had to wait so long for food not to be hot - nothing was hot - chicken, onion rings, green beans - all barely warm. The chicken was actually cooked to perfection - moist, perfectly fried - just so disappointing that it wasn't hot.

came to Toyas very excited about trying the food...upon arrival it took 5 minutes for anyone to greet us at the host stand... the restaurant was half full, and the staff seemed more preoccupied with talking to each other than clearing the 6 dirty tables, greeting guests, refilling drinks and attending to the numerous frustrated looking customers sitting at their respective tables. when finally greeted, we kindly asked for a table ... the young girl working the host stand then looked around casually grabbed a rag and spray bottle and slowly walked over to one of the 6 dirty tables to start clearing and cleaning it off.... at this point, the line is building behind us and there are at least 3 other parties waiting to be seated in this half empty, and fully staffed restaurant... after another 7 minutes of intermittent cleaning and casually chatting with the other young girl who seemed to be her friend, the young girl comes back and gives away our table to the party of the three who happen to walk in that door at the moment... we say "excuse me, but I think you were clearing that table for us? we've been waiting nearly 15 minutes." the young girl laughs and replies "oh I'm sorry! was that you?" at which point...we say never-mind and exit the restaurant....followed by the two other parties who were waiting for a table as well.
