This is the closest place you'll get the Szechuan food in Maryland. I came to Bob's Shanghai and ordered a lot of the Szechuan based menu. First order the beef tendon which had plenty of heat, personally there was a too much black pepper for me. Still was plenty tasty with a gelatinous texture. Secondly had some of their soup dumplings and it was great. Not as much soup as I would like, but there was plenty of flavor. For those who don't know what soup dumplings are, soup dumplings are essentially dumplings which have soup in them. They come out piping hot so you really want to watch out before you bite into these. We also ordered the pork belly stir fried in vegetable and Szechuan sauce. This was the highlight of the whole trip. The stir-fry consisted of plenty of garlic, bamboo shoots, green pepper, spring onion, and Szechuan peppers. The fatty pork belly and combination of vegetables really gave a nice touch. Lastly I ordered the Dan Dan noodles which were terrible. They were dry tasteless and not worth getting. Considering Szechuan is one of my favorite food styles, I usually go to Philly in order to get my Szechuan fixing. For now this place will do the job

I loved this place! I can't believe I have never visited. The XLB Pork Soup dumpling was great but the pork and shrimp shu mai blew me away! Also, the garlic eggplant and Cheng du chicken was awesome. Can't wait to return to try some new dishes. Best Chinese food I've had in awhile. I'd give it a 4.5.

I've been to this restaurant several times. I was recommended it because the food was excellent and the price was reasonable. iPhone, both comments to be true. My daughter, and I have tried a number of dishes here, and all of them were excellent. I recommend this restaurant to anybody. Make sure you bring cash, because no, credit cards are accepted.

The steamed buns are okay, but the shepherd’s purse wontons are not delicious.

Good food, but not as good as some other dim sum restaurants in Montgomery County. Not sure I’d go back.

Do not sleep in this place, their food is the best in the area. I remember it took me and my family a while to go since is not that close to us but the long drive it worth it.

I thought the food from few years ago tasted better. All the food was decently hot enough, but Xiao long bao was not piping hot surprisingly. We tried a few dimsum menu as well, disappointed..shiumai tasted just like the flavor of xlb. I found the pricing has definitely gone up, yet food quantity and quality have shrunk, in my opinion at least. Place is packed though, and still a favorite of some customers it seems.

Came here for the first time for lunch on a weekend with a group of friends. We ordered their pigs ear, vegan kaofu, chili bamboo, chives crescent pocket, mapo tofu, crab and pork soup dumplings and veggie dumplings. Total came out to approximately $120 (not including tip). What's hot - Menu variety. I was very happy to see chives crescent pockets, pig ears, and tea eggs on their menu. They have a very good variety, especially when it comes to Taiwanese food. - Quality. Delicious. My favorite was probably the pig ear, because it was well marinated. One of my friends especially loved their vegan kaofu. Their soup dumplings were fragrant and flavorful. Their mapo tofu is a bit more soupy than what the texture should be. Their dumpling peel could be a bit thinner, but understand that I've had soup dumplings overseas in Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, where the quality can't be beat. - Service. Quick and efficient. All the food comes out within a very reasonable time. - Cost. Reasonable, especially for the portions and quality. - Payment method. If you pay cash, they'll give you a 10% discount. - Parking. There is a parking lot in the immediate plaza, but be aware there's a time limit. We exceeded our time limit and were fortunate not to get penalized. As such, I don't know how strict they are in enforcing the parking restrictions. - Location. Easy to find and conveniently located to other shops, cafes and restaurants, as well. After lunch, my friends and I walked a couple blocks away to get matcha dessert. What's not - Menu items. As I previously explained, their menu is quite extensive, but it's disappointing they don't have certain dishes, like chicken feet. - Wait time. This place appears to be popular. My friends and I arrived right when the restaurant opens at 11am, so we were able to get a table. Not very long after we arrived, probably less than 30 minutes, all the tables were taken and there appeared to be a decent line. As such, be prepared to arrive early; wait in line, and/or; order takeaway, which all depends on how hungry you may be. Final answer Definitely plan on returning.

The environment in the restaurant is clean, but I see many employees handling food without gloves. We called the waiter several times before ordering, and then after we ordered, there was hair in my iced soybean milk. The noodle soup we ordered is also terrible, and everyone's noodles are tasteless. And the we ask for our bills, we decided to only give out 10% of tip since the food is terrible and there is no service at all. But the server mandatory request us for more tips. She is even saying "Are you only give me a few dollars? ". Even though we are visitors but I think it's not recommended at all.

Came here a few years ago and loved the atmosphere and food. My party shared the soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, and a couple other items and all were great. I love that they serve tea as a default too!
